Chris Redfield - The Brawler
Chris Redfield, the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team's point man, is a formidable combatant with higher health and defense than Jill. However, he starts with fewer inventory slots (6 total) and lacks a lockpick, making certain shortcuts and item acquisitions more challenging. His initial weapon is the Combat Knife, and he relies heavily on finding firearms early on.
Early Game Strategy (Mansion 1F)
- Dining Room & Main Hall: After the opening cinematic, you'll find yourself in the Dining Room. Head through the double doors into the Main Hall. Observe the grand staircase.
- West Wing Exploration: Proceed to the west side of the Main Hall. Enter the door leading to the "L-shaped" corridor.
- First Zombie Encounter: In the L-shaped corridor, you'll encounter your first zombie. Due to Chris's limited starting ammo, it's often best to avoid direct confrontation here if possible, or use the Combat Knife for a few quick slashes to knock it down and run past.
- Small Storeroom (West): Enter the small storeroom at the end of the L-shaped corridor. Here, you'll find the Dog Whistle. Take it.
- Item Box & Ink Ribbons: Continue through the next door into the room with the Item Box. Deposit any unnecessary items to manage your limited inventory. Grab the Ink Ribbons from the desk.
- Shotgun Acquisition: Head back to the L-shaped corridor. Go through the door on the north side, leading to the room with the broken shotgun. Examine the broken shotgun on the wall. You cannot take it yet.
- Courtyard Key: From the broken shotgun room, exit and go through the door opposite, leading to the small room with the Courtyard Key. Take it.
- Courtyard Access: Use the Courtyard Key on the double doors in the L-shaped corridor to access the Courtyard.
- Dog Whistle Use: In the Courtyard, use the Dog Whistle. This will summon a Cerberus (dog). Defeat it to obtain the Collar. Examine the Collar to get the Coin. Examine the Coin to get the Small Key.
- Small Key Usage: The Small Key can be used to unlock various desks and drawers throughout the mansion, often yielding ammo or health items. Prioritize areas you've already cleared of enemies.
Mid-Game Considerations (Mansion 2F & Beyond)
- Barry's Assistance: Unlike Jill, Chris will receive assistance from Barry Burton at various points. Barry often provides crucial ammunition (e.g., .38 Special rounds) or even saves Chris from dangerous situations. Pay attention to his cues.
- No Lockpick: Remember Chris does not have a lockpick. This means certain locked doors and drawers that Jill can open easily will require finding specific keys or Small Keys. Explore thoroughly to find these.
- Combat Knife Proficiency: While firearms are always preferred, Chris's higher health allows for more aggressive use of the Combat Knife against individual zombies, especially if you're skilled at dodging and quick slashes.
- Weapon Prioritization: Focus on acquiring the Shotgun as soon as possible. The Grenade Launcher (once found) is also invaluable for its versatility against tougher enemies.
Jill Valentine - The Strategist
Jill Valentine, the "master of unlocking," boasts a larger inventory (8 total slots) and starts with a Lockpick, granting her early access to many locked areas. Her lower health and defense mean she must rely more on evasion and careful resource management. Her initial weapon is the Beretta M92F.

- First Zombie Encounter: In the L-shaped corridor, you'll encounter your first zombie. Use your Beretta. Aim for the head for critical hits, or shoot until it falls and then run past to conserve ammo if health is low.
- Small Storeroom (West): Enter the small storeroom at the end of the L-shaped corridor. Here, you'll find the Dog Whistle. Take it.
- Item Box & Ink Ribbons: Continue through the next door into the room with the Item Box. Deposit any unnecessary items. Grab the Ink Ribbons from the desk.
- Lockpick Advantage: Immediately utilize your Lockpick.
- Desk in Item Box Room: Use the Lockpick on the desk in the Item Box room to acquire Beretta Ammo.
- Desk in Small Storeroom (West): Return to the small storeroom and use the Lockpick on the desk for more Beretta Ammo.
- Courtyard Key: From the Item Box room, exit and go through the door opposite the small storeroom, leading to the room with the broken shotgun. Exit this room and go through the door opposite, leading to the small room with the Courtyard Key. Take it.

Mid-Game Considerations (Mansion 2F & Beyond)
- Barry's Betrayal: Be wary of Barry Burton's presence. While he may offer assistance initially, his true intentions are sinister. Do not rely on him for long-term support.
- Lockpick Utility: Continuously use your Lockpick on any locked desks, drawers, or doors you encounter. This often provides a steady supply of ammunition and healing items, crucial for Jill's lower durability.
- Weapon Prioritization: Secure the Shotgun as soon as possible. The Grenade Launcher is a game-changer, offering various ammo types (Explosive, Flame, Acid) to deal with different enemy threats.
- Evasion over Confrontation: With Jill's lower health, it's often more prudent to evade enemies when possible, especially standard zombies, to conserve precious health and ammunition for more challenging encounters.
