Walkthrough - Mansion (General)

Welcome to the Spencer Mansion, a labyrinth of horrors and puzzles. This section will guide you through the initial exploration of the mansion's main halls and accessible rooms, focusing on key item acquisition and survival strategies. Remember, resource management is paramount in Resident Evil.

Starting in the Main Hall

You begin in the opulent, yet unsettling, Main Hall. Your immediate goal is to secure essential items and understand the mansion's layout.

  • Examine the Foyer: Take a moment to observe your surroundings. The grand staircase dominates the center.
  • Head West (Dining Room):
    • Enter the double doors on the west side. This leads to the Dining Room.
    • Item: On the fireplace mantel, you'll find the Mansion Map. This is crucial for navigation.
    • Encounter: Be prepared for your first zombie encounter here. Aim for headshots if possible, but don't waste too much ammo on a single enemy if you can evade.
    • Exit North (Corridor): Proceed through the northern door in the Dining Room.
  • Corridor to the East Wing:
    • This corridor is often home to another zombie. Deal with it or run past.
    • Item: On a small table or dresser along this corridor, you'll typically find some Handgun Ammo.
    • Enter the East Wing Hallway: Continue through the next door.

East Wing Exploration

The East Wing holds several important early-game items and introduces you to the concept of locked doors requiring specific keys.

  • First Door on the Left (Small Storeroom):
    • This small room often contains a Green Herb. Combine three Green Herbs for a Full Heal.
    • Item: Look for a box of Handgun Ammo here as well.
  • Second Door on the Left (Art Room / Tiger Statue Room):
    • This room is notable for its tiger statue. You'll need a specific item later to interact with it.
    • Item: On a small table, you'll find a Small Key. This key is often used for a specific desk drawer in the mansion.
    • Puzzle: Note the painting on the wall. This is part of a later puzzle.
  • Door at the End of the Hall (Save Room / Item Box):
    • This is your first safe haven. You'll find an Item Box here to store excess items and a Typewriter to save your game (requires Ink Ribbons).
    • Item: On a shelf, grab the Ink Ribbons. You'll need these to save your progress.
    • Item: Often, a First Aid Spray or a Green Herb can be found here.
    • Strategy: Always save your game and manage your inventory here. Only carry what you absolutely need.

Returning to the Main Hall and Beyond

With some initial items and a save point secured, it's time to explore further.

  • Back to the Main Hall: Return to the Main Hall from the East Wing.
  • Ascend the Grand Staircase: Head upstairs to the second floor.
  • Second Floor Corridor (West Side):
    • Encounter: Be wary of crows in this area; they can be a nuisance.
    • Door on the Left (Balcony): This leads to an outdoor balcony area.
    • Item: On the balcony, you'll find a Green Herb.
    • Door at the End of the Corridor (West Wing Hallway): This leads to the mansion's West Wing.
