Saving Richard Aiken

Shortly after your initial exploration of the mansion, you'll receive a distress call over your radio from Richard Aiken, a member of Bravo Team. He's been bitten by a giant snake and is in critical condition. Saving him is crucial for a later plot point and provides some valuable items. This section details the precise steps to ensure his survival.

Preparation is Key

Before heading to Richard, ensure you have the following:

  • Inventory Space: You'll need at least one free slot for the Serum.
  • Healing Items: While not directly for Richard, having a First Aid Spray or a few Green Herbs on hand is always wise for yourself, especially if you encounter enemies on the way.
  • Weapon: You might encounter a few zombies or even a Cerberus on your route, so be prepared.

Locating Richard

Richard Aiken is found in the East Wing, 2F, Balcony Corridor. Follow these steps to reach him:

  1. From the Main Hall, take the door on the right (East side) that leads to the Dining Room.
  2. Proceed through the Dining Room and exit through the door on the far side, leading to the Corridor with the suit of armor.
  3. Turn right and go up the stairs to the second floor.
  4. At the top of the stairs, turn left. You will find Richard slumped against the wall in the Balcony Corridor.

The Serum Hunt

Upon finding Richard, he'll inform you he needs a "Serum." This is your immediate objective. The Serum is located in the Medical Storage Room.

  1. After speaking with Richard, immediately retrace your steps back down the stairs to the first floor.
  2. From the bottom of the stairs, turn left and proceed down the corridor.
  3. Take the first door on your left. This is the Medical Storage Room.
  4. Inside, you'll find the Serum on a shelf. Pick it up.
  5. Important: Be cautious when exiting the Medical Storage Room. A zombie may have spawned in the corridor.

Administering the Serum

With the Serum in hand, you must return to Richard quickly. There is a hidden timer for this event, and if you take too long, Richard will succumb to the venom.

  1. Immediately head back up the stairs to the Balcony Corridor where Richard is.
  2. Approach Richard and interact with him. Your character will automatically administer the Serum.

Rewards for Your Efforts

Once you successfully administer the Serum, Richard will thank you and provide you with the Radio. This item is crucial for receiving further communications from other S.T.A.R.S. members and advancing the plot. More importantly, saving Richard Aiken is a prerequisite for him to assist you later in the game during the fight against the giant snake, Yawn, by providing you with the Assault Shotgun. Missing this step means you'll have to face Yawn without his aid and will not acquire the powerful shotgun from him.
