RPD 1F Exploration

Welcome to the Raccoon Police Department! This initial exploration of the first floor is crucial for gathering vital resources, understanding the layout, and preparing for the horrors that lie ahead. Be prepared for immediate threats and practice ammunition conservation from the outset.

Main Hall (1F) - The Central Hub

You'll begin your RPD journey in the grand Main Hall. This area serves as a central hub, connecting various sections of the station. While seemingly safe at first, it's not entirely free from danger later on. Familiarize yourself with its layout.

  • Key Features:
    • A majestic staircase dominates the center, leading to the second floor.
    • Two doors are located on the west side, and one on the east side.
    • A large set of double doors directly north leads to the Reception.
    • The imposing Goddess Statue, a key puzzle element, stands prominently at the base of the staircase.
  • Initial Items to Collect:
    • Ink Ribbon: Located on a small table near the main entrance. These are essential for saving your game at typewriters. Always pick them up!

Reception (1F) - First Encounters

Head through the double doors directly north from the Main Hall to enter the Reception area. This is likely your first encounter with the RPD's undead inhabitants, so be ready for combat.

  • Threats:
    • Zombies (x2): Two zombies will be shambling around this room. Your best strategy is to aim for headshots to conserve ammunition. If you're low on ammo, consider luring them into a tight space (like the corridor leading to the East Office) and running past, but be warned, they are persistent and can follow you.
  • Items to Secure:
    • Handgun Ammo: On the counter to your left as you enter. Every bullet counts!
    • Map of the RPD 1F: On the desk in the back corner. This is an absolutely critical item, providing you with a clear layout of the first floor and marking unexplored areas. Grab it immediately.
    • Green Herb: Near the window. Useful for healing minor damage. Consider saving it to combine with other herbs later for greater effect.
  • Exits:
    • A single door on the east side leads to the East Office.

East Office (1F) - Resource Hub & Key Item Location

From the Reception, proceed through the eastern door into the East Office. This room is a treasure trove of early-game supplies, but also heavily infested.

  • Threats:
    • Zombies (x3): Expect three zombies here. One might be playing dead on the floor near the back, so approach cautiously and be prepared for it to rise. Prioritize taking them down to secure the area for item collection. A well-placed shotgun blast (if you have it) can clear multiple zombies if they are grouped.
  • Items to Collect:
    • Handgun Ammo: On a desk near the entrance.
    • First Aid Spray: On a shelf in the back. Save this for emergencies as it provides full healing.
    • Red Herb: On a desk. Combine this with a Green Herb for a more potent healing item (restores more health than a single Green Herb).
    • File: "Officer's Notebook": On a desk. Provides some backstory and hints about the RPD's fate.
    • Key Item (Leon's A/1st Run): Unicorn Medal: For Leon, this crucial item is found on a small statue on one of the desks. You will need this to unlock the Goddess Statue in the Main Hall.
    • Key Item (Claire's A/1st Run): For Claire, the Unicorn Medal is NOT found here. It is obtained from the Unicorn Statue puzzle in the Main Hall itself. Claire will find other useful items in this office, but no key medal.
  • Strategy: Clear the zombies methodically. Check every desk, shelf, and corner meticulously. For Leon, securing the Unicorn Medal here is essential for early progression. For Claire, focus on the other valuable resources.

West Office (1F) - Ammunition & Lore

Return to the Main Hall and take the northernmost western door to enter the West Office. This area is often overlooked but contains useful items specific to your character.

  • Threats:
    • Zombies (x2): Two more shambling undead await. Deal with them efficiently, aiming for headshots or using a combat knife if you're confident.
  • Items to Collect:
    • Ammunition (Character-Specific):
      • Leon: Shotgun Shells (on a desk). This is your first opportunity to acquire powerful shotgun ammunition.
      • Claire: Grenade Rounds (on a desk). These are for Claire's Grenade Launcher, offering versatile explosive power.
    • Handgun Ammo: On another desk.
    • File: "Internal Memo": On a desk. Offers additional lore and insight into the RPD's operations.
  • Exits:
    • A door on the north side leads to the Operations Room.

Operations Room (1F) - Safe Haven & Save Point

From the West Office, head north into the Operations Room. This is a small, relatively safe room, perfect for organizing your inventory and saving your progress.

  • Threats: None immediately. This room is typically free of enemies on your first visit.
  • Items to Collect:
    • Ink Ribbon: On a small table. Always grab these!
    • Typewriter: Use this to save your progress! Always save when you find one, especially after collecting key items, solving puzzles, or surviving a tough encounter. Saving frequently is a cornerstone of Resident Evil 2 survival.
  • Strategy: This is a safe haven. Take a moment to manage your inventory, combine herbs, and most importantly, save your game before venturing further into the RPD. This room often serves as a good central save point for the early game.
