Enemy Strategies

Navigating the horrors of Raccoon City requires more than just a steady aim; it demands understanding your adversaries. This section details effective strategies for dealing with the various creatures you’ll encounter, emphasizing resource conservation and tactical engagement.

Zombies

The most common threat, but don't underestimate them. Headshots are key, but not always a one-hit kill. Aim for the brain, and be prepared for them to keep coming.

  • Standard Zombies:
    • Strategy: For individual zombies, a few well-placed handgun shots to the head are usually sufficient. If you have the space, aim for the head and then quickly follow up with a knife attack if they stumble, or a combat knife finisher if they fall.
    • Resource Management: Consider conserving handgun ammo by strategically dodging past them in less critical areas, especially if you're low on health or other resources.
    • Environmental Kills: Look for opportunities to use environmental hazards, such as exploding barrels, to take out groups.
  • Crawling Zombies:
    • Strategy: These are less of a direct threat but can grab your ankles. A single shotgun blast or a few handgun rounds will dispatch them quickly.
    • Prevention: Always check the ground after clearing an area, especially in dimly lit corridors.

Lickers

Blind but possess acute hearing and a devastating tongue attack. These creatures are best avoided or dealt with silently.

  • Strategy:
    • Stealth: Walk slowly (don't run!) to avoid detection. If you must pass one, move with extreme caution.
    • Silent Takedown (Leon): If you have the Shotgun, a single well-aimed blast can often take them down.
    • Silent Takedown (Claire): The Grenade Launcher with Flame Rounds is highly effective, often stunning or killing them in one shot. Acid Rounds also work well.
    • Flashbang Grenades: These are excellent for stunning Lickers, allowing you to run past or get in critical hits.
  • Avoidance: If you can bypass a Licker without engaging, do so. They are ammo sinks.

Cerberus (Zombie Dogs)

Fast, agile, and often appear in packs. They can quickly close distances and inflict damage.

  • Strategy:
    • Shotgun (Leon): The Shotgun is ideal for taking out Cerberus due to its wide spread and stopping power. Aim for their body as they charge.
    • Grenade Launcher (Claire): Flame Rounds or Acid Rounds from the Grenade Launcher are highly effective against groups.
    • Submachine Gun (Claire): The JMB Hp3 (SMG) can quickly dispatch them with sustained fire, but be mindful of ammo consumption.
    • Dodge and Counter: If you're low on ammo, try to bait their lunge attack, dodge, and then quickly counter with a few handgun shots.

G (Mutated Forms)

These are the primary boss encounters and require specific tactics.

  • G (Stage 1 - Sewer Encounter):
    • Strategy: Aim for the large eye on his shoulder. When he exposes his core, unleash your most powerful weapons.
    • Weapons (Leon): Shotgun and Combat Knife are effective.
    • Weapons (Claire): Grenade Launcher (Flame Rounds) and JMB Hp3.
    • Environmental: Utilize the crane to drop the container on him for significant damage.
  • G (Stage 2 - Treatment Pool Room):
    • Strategy: Focus fire on the multiple eyes that appear on his body. When he opens his chest, aim for the exposed core.
    • Weapons (Leon): Shotgun, Magnum, and Grenades.
    • Weapons (Claire): Grenade Launcher (Acid Rounds are excellent here), Spark Shot, and Grenades.
    • Movement: Stay mobile and use the platforms to create distance.
  • G (Stage 3 - Laboratory):
    • Strategy: This is a chase sequence. Your primary goal is to survive and reach the final platform. Use the environment to your advantage.
    • Weapons: Conserve ammo for the final confrontation. Use explosive barrels if available.
    • Final Confrontation: Once on the platform, aim for the large eye on his chest. Use your most powerful weapons.

Ivy (Plant Zombies)

Found in the Greenhouse and Laboratory. These creatures are resilient and can poison you.

  • Strategy:
    • Weak Point: Aim for the orange bulbs on their bodies. Destroying all bulbs will kill them.
    • Flame Rounds (Claire): The Grenade Launcher with Flame Rounds is incredibly effective, often killing them in one or two shots.
    • Flamethrower (Leon): The Chemical Flamethrower is also highly effective, burning away their health quickly.
    • Avoidance: If you don't have fire-based weapons, try to avoid them or use a Flashbang Grenade to stun and run past.

Tyrant (Mr. X)

An unstoppable force that stalks you throughout the RPD. He cannot be permanently killed in most encounters, only temporarily incapacitated.

  • Strategy:
    • Run: Your primary strategy is to run. He is relentless and will follow you through rooms.
    • Temporary Incapacitation: A significant amount of damage (e.g., several shotgun blasts, magnum rounds, or a grenade) will knock him down for a short period, allowing you to escape.
    • Conserve Ammo: Do not waste valuable ammo trying to kill him unless absolutely necessary to clear a path.
    • Listen: Listen for his heavy footsteps to anticipate his arrival.
