Welcome to the Raccoon City Police Department (RPD), Leon! your initial exploration of the RPD, focusing on key item acquisition, puzzle solutions, and navigating the early zombie encounters as you search for a way to restore power and progress deeper into the station. Be prepared for limited resources and strategic combat.
Initial RPD Approach and East Office
- After the harrowing gas station escape and the cutscene introducing the RPD, you'll find yourself just outside the station's main gate.
- Proceed through the gate and follow the path. You'll encounter your first RPD zombie here. Conserve ammo by aiming for headshots or using your Combat Knife for downed enemies.
- Enter the East Office, located on the ground floor (1F) to your right as you enter the main RPD courtyard.
- Inside the East Office:
- On the desk near the entrance, pick up the Officer's Notebook. This document provides crucial lore and hints.
- On the far side of the office, near a fallen bookshelf, you'll find the Combat Knife. This is a vital defensive item and can be used to conserve pistol ammo.
- Scattered throughout the office, you can also find Handgun Ammo and a Green Herb.
Main Hall and RPD Map Acquisition
- Exit the East Office and proceed into the grand Main Hall of the RPD. This area serves as a central hub.
- RPD Map: Immediately upon entering the Main Hall, head to the reception desk on the ground floor. On the desk, you will find the RPD Map (1F). This map is essential for navigation and identifying key locations.
- Statue Puzzle Introduction: Observe the large statue in the center of the Main Hall. This is where you'll eventually place the three medallions to unlock a secret passage. For now, it's just a landmark.
West Office and Portable Safe
- From the Main Hall, head to the West Office, also on the ground floor (1F). It's located on the opposite side of the Main Hall from the East Office.
- Inside the West Office:
- On a desk near the entrance, collect the High-Caliber Rounds (for your Handgun).
- On another desk, you'll find the Portable Safe. This is a puzzle item.
- You can also find Handgun Ammo and a First Aid Spray in this room.
- Portable Safe Puzzle Solution: The Portable Safe requires you to press the buttons in a specific sequence to unlock it. The solution is: Left 2, Right 10, Left 4, Right 6.
- Upon successfully opening the safe, you will receive a Spare Key.
- Hip Pouch Acquisition: Use the newly acquired Spare Key on the locker located within the West Office. This locker contains a Hip Pouch, which permanently increases your inventory space by two slots – an invaluable upgrade.
Operations Room and Unicorn Medallion
- Exit the West Office and proceed through the corridor to the Operations Room.
- Inside the Operations Room:
- You'll find a typewriter here, allowing you to save your game.
- Collect any available Handgun Ammo or other resources.
- Continue from the Operations Room into the adjacent Watchman's Room.
- Inside the Watchman's Room:
- On a desk, you will find the Unicorn Medallion. This is the first of three medallions needed for the Main Hall statue.
- Be wary of a zombie that may animate in this room or the preceding corridor.
Returning to the Main Hall
- With the Unicorn Medallion in hand, retrace your steps back through the Operations Room and West Office to the Main Hall.
- Approach the large statue in the center of the Main Hall.
- Interact with the statue and place the Unicorn Medallion into its designated slot. You'll hear a distinct sound, indicating progress.
