Power Cable & Train Activation

With the Fuse now in your possession, your next critical objective is to acquire the Power Cable and restore power to the subway system. This will allow you to finally activate the train and escape Raccoon City. This section will guide you through the perilous journey to the Power Substation, the intricacies of its circuit breaker puzzle, and the final steps to get the train running.

Journey to the Power Substation

From the Subway Office, exit back into the subway platform area. You'll need to navigate through the streets to reach the Power Substation. Be prepared for several enemy encounters along the way.

Route: Head out of the Subway Office, through the turnstiles, and back onto the street. Your destination is the Power Substation, located a few blocks away.
Enemies: Expect to encounter multiple Zombies in the street sections. These areas are often tight, making evasion difficult. Consider using your Shotgun for crowd control if you have sufficient ammo.
Optional Detour (Item Collection): Before heading directly to the Substation, you might want to explore any unvisited areas of the streets for additional ammo, healing items, or files. However, be mindful of your resources and the ever-present threat of Nemesis.

The Power Substation: Securing the Power Cable

Upon reaching the Power Substation, you'll find the entrance slightly ajar. Proceed with caution, as this area is not without its dangers.

Enemies and Challenges within the Substation

Initial Room: As you enter, you'll likely encounter a few Zombies shambling about. Prioritize headshots or use your Knife to conserve ammo if you're confident in your dodging.
Licker Encounter (GameCube/Dreamcast/PC versions): In some versions of the game, a Licker might drop from the ceiling in one of the corridors leading to the main puzzle room. These creatures are fast and deadly. Use your Shotgun or Grenade Launcher for a quick dispatch, or try to run past them if you're low on health/ammo.
Spider Ambush (PlayStation version): The PlayStation version might feature a few large Spiders in the Substation's darker corners. These can poison you, so be ready with a Blue Herb or Antidote.

The Circuit Breaker Puzzle

The Power Cable is located in the main control room of the Power Substation, but it's currently inactive. To retrieve it, you must restore power by solving a circuit breaker puzzle.

Locate the Control Panel: In the main room, you'll find a large control panel with several circuit breakers.
Examine the Panel: Interact with the panel. You'll notice a series of circuit breakers, some up, some down. The goal is to flip the correct combination to restore power.
The Puzzle Mechanism: This puzzle typically involves three circuit breakers. Flipping one breaker often affects the state of others. The objective is to get all three breakers into the "ON" (up) position simultaneously.
Common Pitfalls & Strategy:
- Trial and Error: The puzzle is usually a simple permutation. If you're stuck, try flipping one breaker at a time and observing which others change.
- Systematic Approach: A common solution involves flipping the breakers in a specific sequence. For example, if flipping breaker 1 also flips breaker 2, and flipping breaker 2 also flips breaker 3, you might need to find a breaker that only affects itself or a limited set.
- Example Solution (common): Often, flipping the middle breaker first, then the left breaker, and finally the right breaker will solve it. However, the exact combination can vary slightly between playthroughs or versions. If that doesn't work, try flipping the right breaker first, then the left breaker, and then the middle breaker.
- Visual Cue: Once the power is restored, you'll hear a distinct hum, and the lights in the room will brighten.
Retrieve the Power Cable: After successfully solving the puzzle, the Power Cable will become accessible on a nearby console or table. Pick it up immediately.

Activating the Train

With the Power Cable in hand, it's time to return to the Subway Office and get that train moving.

Return to the Subway Office: Retrace your steps back through the streets to the Subway Office. Be prepared for potential respawned enemies or even a surprise appearance from Nemesis, especially if you've been lingering in the area.
Use the Power Cable: Inside the Subway Office, locate the main control panel where you previously inserted the Fuse. Interact with it again.
Connect the Power Cable: You will now have the option to use the Power Cable. Select it from your inventory to connect it to the panel. This will restore the primary power supply to the train controls.
Insert the Fuse: If you haven't already, insert the Fuse into its designated slot on the control panel. This is the final piece of the puzzle.
Activate the Train: With both the Power Cable connected and the Fuse inserted, the train's control panel will fully light up. Interact with it one last time to initiate the train's activation sequence.
