Walkthrough - Dead Factory / Disposal Plant
Welcome to the Dead Factory, Jill! This industrial nightmare is the final major area of Resident Evil 3, and it's teeming with Umbrella's most grotesque creations. Prepare for intense combat, challenging puzzles, and the ultimate confrontation with Nemesis. Conserve your resources, stay alert, and follow this guide to dismantle Umbrella's operations once and for all.
Entering the Dead Factory & Initial Exploration
After the dramatic events at the Clock Tower, Jill finds herself in the grim confines of the Dead Factory, also known as the Disposal Plant. This facility is where Umbrella manufactures and disposes of its bioweapons. The air is thick with the stench of decay and machinery.
- Upon gaining control, you'll be in a large, open area. Head straight ahead and through the double doors.
- You'll enter a corridor with several doors. The first door on your right leads to a small office.
- ITEM ALERT: Inside this office, on a desk, you'll find the Factory Map. This is crucial for navigating the complex layout of the Dead Factory. Also, check the lockers for Handgun Ammo and a Green Herb.
- Exit the office and continue down the corridor. Be wary of Zombies that may shamble out from side rooms or vents. A quick headshot or a well-placed shotgun blast will dispatch them.
- At the end of the corridor, you'll find a door leading to a large processing room.
The Waste Disposal Area Puzzle
This section involves navigating dangerous machinery and solving a pressure-based puzzle to clear a path.
- In the large processing room, you'll encounter more Zombies. Prioritize taking them down to avoid being swarmed.
- Locate the catwalks above the main floor. Climb the ladder to access them.
- Follow the catwalks around until you reach a control panel overlooking a massive waste compactor. This is the Waste Disposal Area.
- PUZZLE: Waste Disposal Area Pressure Puzzle
Your goal here is to activate the waste compactor to clear a path. This requires adjusting the pressure gauges.
- Examine the control panel. You'll see two pressure gauges and a series of buttons (usually labeled "Increase Pressure" and "Decrease Pressure" for each gauge, or a single "Start" button).
- The objective is to set both pressure gauges to a specific, usually high, value (e.g., 100% or 120%, depending on the version/difficulty).
- Press the "Increase Pressure" buttons for both gauges until they reach the target value. Be careful not to exceed it, as this might cause an overload and require you to reset.
- Once both gauges are at the correct pressure, press the "Start" or "Activate" button.
- A short cutscene will play, showing the compactor crushing the waste and opening a new path below.
- Descend from the catwalks and proceed through the newly opened passage.
- ITEM ALERT: Before leaving the catwalks, check any small offices or ledges for Shotgun Shells or Grenade Launcher Rounds.
The Incinerator Room and Key Acquisition
After the waste disposal area, you'll find yourself in a new section of the factory. Your next objective is to find the Incinerator Key.
- Proceed through the passage opened by the waste compactor. You'll likely enter a series of corridors or another large room.
- Be prepared for encounters with Zombies or potentially a Hunter Beta in these new areas.
- Navigate these areas until you locate the Incinerator Room itself. This room typically contains a large incinerator unit and a control console.
- ITEM ALERT: The Incinerator Key is usually found within the Incinerator Room, often on a desk, a console, or hanging on a hook near the incinerator controls. This key is used to access a different, locked section of the factory, not to operate the incinerator itself.
- Also, search the Incinerator Room thoroughly for other valuable items like First Aid Spray or Magnum Rounds.
The Water Treatment Plant & Power Restoration
With the Incinerator Key in hand, you can now access the Water Treatment Plant, which is crucial for restoring power to a significant portion of the factory.
- Locate the door that requires the Incinerator Key. Use it to unlock the path to the Water Treatment Plant.
- The passage leads to the Water Treatment Plant. This area is often dark and damp, with pipes crisscrossing the ceiling.
- You'll encounter several Drain Deimos here. These insectoid creatures can be annoying due to their erratic movements and ability to cling to walls. Use a shotgun or submachine gun for crowd control.
- Your objective is to restore power to the main grid. Navigate through the plant, dealing with enemies, until you locate the main power generator room. It's usually at the far end of the treatment plant.
- Inside the generator room, you'll find a large power console.
- PUZZLE: Power Console Rerouting
The power console requires you to reroute power. There will be a series of switches or circuit breakers.
- Examine the console for any diagrams or notes indicating the correct power flow.
- Typically, you'll need to activate switches in a specific order to prevent overloading the system. Look for labels like "Main Power," "Auxiliary," and "Output."
- A common solution involves activating the "Auxiliary" power first, then "Main Power," and finally routing power to the "Output" or "Factory Grid." The exact sequence might involve matching numerical values or aligning colored lights.
- If you fail, a fuse might blow, requiring you to reset the console or, in some cases, find a replacement fuse (though this is less common in RE3).
- Once power is restored, the lights will come on, and machinery will hum to life. This also often unlocks previously inaccessible doors and activates elevators.
- ITEM ALERT: Before leaving the generator room, check for First Aid Spray or Magnum Rounds, as these are high-value items often placed in critical puzzle areas.
The Cargo Bay and Final Nemesis Encounter
With power restored, you can now access the cargo bay, leading to the ultimate confrontation with Nemesis.
- Return to the main processing room or a central hub that was previously dark. You'll notice new doors are now powered and accessible.
- Locate the large double doors leading to the "Cargo Bay" or "Loading Dock." This is typically a very large, open area.
- As you enter, prepare for a major encounter. This is where you'll face Nemesis in his final, monstrous form.
- BOSS BATTLE: Nemesis (Final Form - Stage 3)
- Description: Nemesis has mutated into a grotesque, multi-limbed creature, resembling a massive, fleshy blob. It's immobile but covers a vast area, attacking with powerful tentacles and corrosive bile. It's fused with the environment.
- Strategy:
- Activate the Experimental Rail Cannon: Your primary objective is to activate the experimental rail cannon located in the center of the cargo bay. This requires power.
- Locate Power Cells: There are usually three large Power Cells scattered around the edges of the cargo bay. These are heavy and require Jill to push them.
- Insert Power Cells: Push each Power Cell into its respective slot on the rail cannon's base. This will be challenging as Nemesis will continuously attack.
- Dodge and Weave: Nemesis will constantly attack with wide-sweeping tentacles and projectile corrosive bile. Stay mobile, using the environment (crates, pillars) for temporary cover. Prioritize dodging over attacking Nemesis directly.
- Target Weak Points (Optional, but helpful): While the rail cannon is the main method, you can damage Nemesis's fleshy appendages with powerful weapons (Magnum, Grenade Launcher with Flame/Acid Rounds) to briefly stun him or make him retract his tentacles, giving you precious seconds to move power cells.
- Activate the Cannon: Once all three Power Cells are inserted, a control panel on the rail cannon will become active. Interact with it to fire the rail cannon.
- Repeat if Necessary: Depending on your difficulty setting, you might need to fire the rail cannon multiple times. After each shot, the Power Cells will be knocked out of their slots. You must push them back in and re-activate the console for subsequent shots.
- Recommended Loadout:
- Grenade Launcher (Flame/Acid Rounds): Excellent for stunning Nemesis while you move power cells.
- Magnum: High damage, useful for quick stuns or if you need to deal direct damage in a pinch, but conserve ammo.
- First Aid Sprays/Mixed Herbs: You will take damage. Have plenty of healing items readily accessible in your inventory.
- No need for Handgun/Shotgun: Their damage output is too low for this boss.
- Common Pitfalls: Getting cornered by Nemesis's tentacles, running out of healing items, or trying to defeat him solely with conventional weapons. Focus on the rail cannon!
- After successfully defeating Nemesis with the rail cannon, a final cutscene will trigger, leading to the game's conclusion.
The Missile Launch Sequence (Ending)
Following the defeat of Nemesis, the game transitions to the final escape sequence.
- After the cutscene, Jill will find herself in a control room, with the facility's self-destruct sequence initiated.
- Your final task is to escape before the missile strikes.
- Follow the on-screen prompts or the most obvious path out of the facility. This usually involves running through a series of corridors and activating a final escape route (e.g., an elevator or a vehicle).
- There are no further enemies or puzzles at this point, just a race against time.
- Successfully escaping the facility will trigger the game's ending cinematics.

Final Tips for the Dead Factory / Disposal Plant
- Resource Management: This is the final stretch. Use your most powerful weapons against the toughest enemies (Hunters, Nemesis). Don't be afraid to use healing items when necessary; there's no "next area" to save them for.
- Save Often: There are usually a few Typewriter save points in the Dead Factory. Use them, especially before the Nemesis fight.
- Know Your Enemies:
- Zombies: Standard threat. Headshots or shotgun blasts.
- Drain Deimos: Annoying but not overly dangerous. Shotgun or SMG for quick dispatch.
- Hunter Beta: Fast, dangerous melee. Grenade Launcher (Flame Rounds) or Magnum for quick elimination.
- Nemesis (Final Form): Focus on the rail cannon. Avoid direct confrontation with conventional weapons unless stunning him to buy time.
- Explore Thoroughly: Even in the final area, there can be hidden ammo or healing items that can make a difference in the final boss fight.
- Patience is Key: Especially during the Nemesis fight, rushing will lead to unnecessary damage. Take your time to dodge and position yourself to push the power cells.
