Walkthrough - Train Station
Welcome to the Train Station, Jill Valentine! This area serves as a critical junction in your escape from Raccoon City, offering essential items and setting the stage for future puzzles. Expect a mix of standard zombie encounters and environmental navigation. Resource management is key here, so make every shot count!
Entering the Station Main Hall
Upon entering the main hall, you'll be greeted by an eerie silence, often punctuated by the groans of the undead. This spacious area can initially seem daunting, but careful movement will keep you safe. Several zombies typically patrol the main floor. Prioritize headshots to conserve precious ammunition, or practice your dodging skills to bypass them entirely if you're confident.
- Enemies: 3-5 Standard Zombies.
- Strategy: Use the wide-open space to your advantage. Lure zombies into chokepoints for easier grouping, or sprint past them if your health is low.
- Item Location:
- Benches (Main Waiting Area): Search thoroughly. You can often find a box of Handgun Ammo (15 rounds) or a single Green Herb.
- Information Booth (Central): Sometimes contains a hidden Handgun Ammo (15 rounds) box.
The Ticket Counter and Office
Your immediate goal is the ticket counter area, located on one side of the main hall. Behind this counter lies a small, relatively safe office. This is an ideal spot to quickly check your inventory and prepare for the next steps.
- Action: Approach the ticket counter and look for an opening to access the small office behind it.
- Item Location (Inside Office):
- Desk: The crucial Train Station Key is prominently displayed here. This key is indispensable for progressing to the platforms.
- Desk: Often, a First Aid Spray will be found alongside the key, a welcome sight for any survivor.
- File Location (Inside Office):
- Wall/Bulletin Board: Look for the "Train Schedule" file.
- Importance of "Train Schedule": This file is primarily for lore and atmosphere, detailing the last scheduled departures and the chaos that ensued. While it doesn't contain an immediate puzzle solution or a critical item location, it reinforces the narrative and the grim situation in Raccoon City. It is not mandatory to pick up for progression, but it adds to the game's rich storytelling.
Accessing the Train Platforms
With the Train Station Key in hand, your next destination is the locked door leading to the train platforms. This door is typically situated on the opposite side of the main hall from where you initially entered, often near a set of stairs or a different exit point.
- Action: Locate the locked door marked for "Platforms" or "Tracks." Use the Train Station Key to unlock it.
- Inventory Management: Once the door is unlocked, the Train Station Key will be marked as "Used." Immediately discard it to free up a valuable inventory slot. Every slot counts in Resident Evil 3!
- Encounter: As you step onto the platform, be prepared for more resistance. You'll usually encounter 2-3 standard zombies. On higher difficulties or in specific playthroughs, a swift Cerberus (zombie dog) might also appear, requiring quick reflexes or a powerful shotgun blast.
- Strategy: The platform can be narrow. If a Cerberus appears, consider using the Shotgun for a quick kill, as their speed makes them difficult to evade in tight spaces.
Navigating the Derelict Train Car Platform
Your ultimate goal on this platform is to reach the derelict train car located at the far end. The path is linear but can be fraught with danger, especially if you're low on health or ammo.
- Item Location (Along Platform):
- Crates/Barrels: Keep an eye on the various crates, luggage, and barrels scattered along the platform. These often conceal useful items such as Shotgun Shells (7 rounds) or a Blue Herb (useful for curing poison, though less common here).
- Hidden Nook: Sometimes, a small alcove or bench might hide a box of Handgun Ammo (15 rounds).
- Strategy: The platform's confined nature means that engaging multiple enemies simultaneously can be risky. If you encounter a cluster of zombies, a well-placed Shotgun blast can clear your path efficiently. Alternatively, if you're conserving ammo, try to lure them into a single file line and sprint past.
- Action: Proceed to the very end of the platform until you reach the open door of the stationary, derelict train car.
Inside the Derelict Train Car: The Critical Item
The train car itself is a small, claustrophobic space, but it houses the single most important item for your immediate progression in this area. Prepare for a quick item grab and then a strategic retreat or onward journey.
- Item Location (Inside Train Car):
- Seats/Floor: The critical item, the Fuse, will be found either on one of the seats or lying on the floor towards the back of the car. This item is absolutely essential for restoring power to a later section of the station, allowing you to activate machinery or open new pathways. Do not leave without it!
- File Location (Inside Train Car):
- Seats/Floor: Look for a file such as the "Mechanic's Diary" or a similar note. These files often provide additional backstory regarding the station's downfall or offer subtle clues about the current state of affairs, but are not mandatory for puzzle solving.
- Important Note: Once you pick up the Fuse, your primary objective for this specific section of the Train Station is complete. The game will now expect you to utilize this item elsewhere.
- Next Steps:
- Exit the Train Car: Head back out onto the platform.
- Return to the Main Hall: Make your way back through the platform door to the main station hall.
- Proceed to the Substation: Your next destination will be the Substation, usually accessible from the main hall, where the Fuse will be used to restore power and open up new areas for exploration. Be prepared for new enemy encounters on your return journey!
Always remember to manage your inventory effectively, combine herbs if necessary, and save your game at the nearest typewriter (often found in a safe room adjacent to the main hall) after securing important items like the Fuse. Good luck, Jill!
