2.6. Village Collectibles & Secrets
The Village section of Resident Evil 4 Remake is a sprawling and dangerous area filled with hidden treasures, valuable items, and secret encounters. Thorough exploration is key to uncovering these collectibles, which can provide much-needed resources, Pesetas, and even unlockables that aid in your survival.
As Leon makes his way through the initial stages of the game, the Village area serves as a crucial introduction to the game's mechanics and the pervasive threat of the Ganados. Beyond the main path, numerous side areas, buildings, and hidden nooks contain valuable items. Keep an eye out for breakable crates and barrels, which often contain ammunition, herbs, or Pesetas. Many houses and structures can be entered, offering opportunities to find treasures, crafting materials, and sometimes even locked chests requiring a specific key.
Key collectibles in the Village include the various treasures that can be sold to the Merchant for Pesetas. These range from simple gems like Spinels and Rubies to more elaborate artifacts. The Merchant also offers requests, which often involve finding specific items or eliminating certain enemies within the Village area, providing additional rewards upon completion. Look for the blue medallions scattered throughout the environment; destroying these often contributes to unlocking special items or bonuses from the Merchant.
| Collectible Type | Location Examples | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Treasures | Inside houses, locked chests, dropped by enemies. | Sell to Merchant for Pesetas. |
| Spinels | Found in various hidden spots, often rewarded for requests. | Trade with Merchant for exclusive items. |
| Blue Medallions | Scattered throughout the Village area. | Destroying them unlocks rewards from the Merchant. |
| Herbs & Ammo | Breakable objects, hidden corners, inside buildings. | Essential for survival and combat. |
| Merchant Requests | Obtained from the Merchant's notes. | Provide Pesetas and sometimes unique items upon completion. |
Pay close attention to the environment. Some secrets are well-hidden, requiring you to look up, behind objects, or in seemingly inaccessible areas. The first encounter with El Gigante, for instance, takes place in an arena that contains several breakable barrels and explosive items that can be used to your advantage. Later in the Village section, you'll encounter a large windmill; exploring its interior and surroundings can yield valuable loot. The area leading up to the first boss, Bitores Mendez, is also rich with resources. Don't rush through these areas; take your time to explore every corner. The rewards for diligent exploration in the Village are substantial and will greatly assist Leon in his fight against the cultists and their monstrous creations.
