Request Quests & Rewards
Beyond the main story, Resident Evil 4 (Remake) features several optional Request Quests scattered throughout its diverse environments. Completing these tasks for the Merchant offers valuable rewards, including valuable treasures and Spinels, which are essential for acquiring powerful upgrades and unique items.
The Merchant isn't just your go-to for weapons and ammo; he also posts requests for specific tasks that help him (and indirectly, you). These quests often involve hunting down specific enemies, destroying cursed medallions, or retrieving lost items. While not mandatory for story progression, undertaking these Requests is highly recommended. The rewards, particularly Spinels, are crucial for unlocking the Merchant's special inventory, which includes powerful weapon charms, unique weapon upgrades, and other beneficial items that can significantly ease your journey.
Types of Request Quests and their rewards:
- Destroy the Blue Medallions: These small, blue emblems are often hidden in hard-to-reach places. Destroying a set number rewards you with Spinels. The number of medallions required and the rewards increase as you progress through the game.
- Hunt Specific Enemies: Some requests involve eliminating particular types of enemies, often in specific locations. These usually reward you with Pesetas and sometimes Spinels. For example, hunting down a specific type of insect or a particularly troublesome Ganado.
- Retrieve Lost Items: Occasionally, you'll be asked to find a lost item, such as a stolen artifact or a specific herb. These often lead to valuable treasures or Spinels upon completion.
- Pest Control: Certain requests involve clearing out nests of smaller, more annoying creatures, such as rats or insects. These typically reward Pesetas.
The first set of Blue Medallions can be found in the Village area. Look for them on wooden structures, hanging from rafters, or hidden behind objects. The Merchant will offer a reward of 3 Spinels for destroying 5 of them. Later requests will involve more challenging locations and a greater number of medallions. Always check the Merchant's notice board for active requests before moving to a new area. The rewards are well worth the effort, especially the Spinels, which are vital for acquiring powerful weapon charms that offer passive bonuses.
