7.2. Treasure Locations & Combinations
Scattered throughout the perilous environments of Resident Evil 4 (Remake) are numerous treasures, valuable items that can be sold to the merchant for Pesetas. These treasures range from simple gems to intricate artifacts, and many can be combined with other items to significantly increase their sell value. Mastering treasure hunting and combination is key to amassing wealth for weapon upgrades and essential supplies.
Treasures are often found in hidden chests, breakable containers, or dropped by defeated enemies. Some are located in plain sight, while others require keen observation and exploration to uncover. The merchant's requests, particularly the destruction of Blue Medallions, often lead you to areas where valuable treasures are hidden.
The true power of treasures lies in their combination potential. Many treasures have empty sockets that can be filled with gems such as Rubies, Emeralds, Sapphires, and Amethysts. Combining the correct gems with the appropriate treasures can multiply their base sell value by two, three, or even more.
Key Treasures and Their Combination Potential:
- Ornate Mask: Can be combined with up to three gems (Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire). A fully gemmed mask sells for a substantial amount.
- Crown: Similar to the mask, this can hold multiple gems, greatly increasing its value.
- Golden Hourglass: Often found with one or two gem slots.
- Viper: Can be combined with a Ruby to increase its value.
- Antiquated Compass: Can be combined with an Emerald.
Always check the 'Combine' option in your inventory menu when you acquire a new treasure or gem. The game will clearly indicate which treasures have available slots and which gems can be used. Prioritize filling these slots before selling, as the difference in profit can be immense. For example, a base Ornate Mask might sell for 5,000 Pesetas, but when fully gemmed with Rubies, Emeralds, and Sapphires, it can fetch upwards of 20,000 Pesetas.
Where to Find Gems:
- Defeated Enemies: Certain enemies, especially bosses or those with unique drops, may yield gems.
- Breakable Objects: Vases, crates, and barrels sometimes contain gems.
- Hidden Locations: Gems are often placed in hard-to-reach areas or behind locked doors requiring a Bolt Cutter.
- Merchant: The merchant occasionally sells gems, though this is usually a last resort due to their cost.
The merchant also sells special 'Treasure Maps' that reveal the locations of hidden treasures in specific areas. While these cost Pesetas, they can be a worthwhile investment if you're struggling to find all the hidden valuables. Furthermore, the merchant offers weapon charms that can increase the drop rate of certain gems or increase the sell value of treasures, further aiding your financial endeavors.
