Militants (Soldiers) & Variants

The island section of Resident Evil 4 Remake introduces a new faction of enemies: the highly organized and well-equipped militants, often referred to as soldiers. These adversaries are a significant step up in difficulty from the Ganados and Los Iluminados, employing advanced tactics, weaponry, and presenting several dangerous variants that demand careful strategy and resource management.

Militants are characterized by their tactical gear, including helmets and body armor, which makes them more resilient to damage. They often fight in coordinated groups, using cover effectively and employing flanking maneuvers. Their standard weaponry includes assault rifles, shotguns, and grenades, making them a threat at various ranges. Headshots are still critical, but their helmets can sometimes deflect initial shots, requiring follow-up or precise aiming.

Standard Militants: These are the backbone of the enemy forces on the island. They are armed with assault rifles and will actively seek cover, suppress you with fire, and attempt to flank. Prioritize taking them out quickly to prevent being overwhelmed.

Militant Snipers: Found in elevated positions, these enemies pose a significant long-range threat. Their sniper rifles can deal massive damage, and their shots are often telegraphed by a laser sight. Prioritize eliminating them as soon as you spot them, using a rifle or a well-aimed handgun shot. They are often found on rooftops or distant platforms.

Militant Grenadiers: These soldiers are equipped with grenade launchers, capable of lobbing explosive projectiles that can deal area-of-effect damage. They are often found behind cover and will try to flush you out. Explosive barrels can be used against them, or you can try to quickly close the distance and eliminate them before they can fire.

Militant Shield Bearers: A particularly troublesome variant, these militants carry large riot shields that make them almost impervious to frontal attacks. They often advance aggressively, forcing you to find ways around their defenses. Shotgun blasts at close range can sometimes stagger them, and flanking maneuvers are essential. Alternatively, using flash grenades can stun them, creating an opening for attack.

Militant Commanders: These are elite units that often lead groups of standard militants. They are more heavily armored and may possess unique abilities or call in reinforcements. Defeating them can sometimes cause their subordinates to become disoriented or less effective.

Tactics for Fighting Militants:

• use Cover: Always be aware of your surroundings and use cover to your advantage. Peek out to fire and duck back to reload or heal.
• Prioritize Threats: Identify the most dangerous enemies first, such as snipers or grenadiers, and eliminate them quickly.
• Exploit Weaknesses: Headshots are still effective, but consider using explosives or high-powered weapons against armored enemies.
• Flanking: When facing shield bearers or heavily fortified groups, try to find ways to flank them.
• Resource Management: Militants are often found in areas with limited resources. Make every bullet count and use melee attacks when safe.
