Post-Game Content
Congratulations, survivor! Completing the main story of Resident Evil 4 Remake is just the beginning. A wealth of challenges, unlockables, and new experiences await. This section will guide you through maximizing your post-game enjoyment, from tackling higher difficulties to uncovering every secret.
New Game+ (NG+)
Upon finishing the game on any difficulty, you'll unlock New Game+. This allows you to restart the story with most of your acquired weapons, upgrades, and inventory intact. This is the ideal way to pursue achievements, unlock powerful new gear, and experience the story with a significant advantage.
- What Carries Over:
- All weapons and their upgrades (including exclusive upgrades).
- All weapon attachments.
- All inventory items (healing items, grenades, crafting materials).
- All treasures and their combined value (allowing for immediate purchases).
- All Pesetas.
- All unlocked Charms for the Attache Case.
- All unlocked costumes and accessories.
- What Does NOT Carry Over:
- Key items (e.g., Insignia Keys, Crank, Church Key).
- Story progress and chapter unlocks.
- Merchant requests (these reset).
- Strategy: Use NG+ to tackle Professional difficulty, complete any missed Merchant Requests (especially those for Spinel rewards), and experiment with different weapon loadouts without the early-game struggle.
Unlocking Difficulties & Rewards
Each difficulty completion unlocks subsequent challenges and valuable rewards:
- Hardcore Difficulty: Unlocked after completing the game on Standard. Offers a significant increase in enemy health, aggression, and resource scarcity.
- Professional Difficulty: Unlocked after completing the game on Hardcore. This is the ultimate test.
- Key Changes: No auto-saves (manual saves only at typewriters), perfect parries are required, and enemy damage is drastically increased.
- Reward for Completion: The Chicago Sweeper (an exclusive Tommy Gun-style weapon) and the Armor costume for Ashley.
- Strategy for Professional: Prioritize stealth kills when possible. Master the perfect parry. use the Merchant's exclusive upgrades early on for powerful weapons like the Shotgun or Magnum. Consider using the infinite ammo Rocket Launcher (purchased for 2,000,000 Pesetas in NG+) for boss fights if you're struggling.
- S+ Rank Requirements: Achieving an S+ rank on Professional difficulty requires completing the game within a strict time limit (under 5 hours and 30 minutes) and with a limited number of saves (15 or fewer). This is crucial for unlocking the most powerful post-game items.
- Rewards for S+ on Professional:
- Cat Ears: An accessory that grants infinite ammo for all weapons when equipped. This is arguably the most powerful unlock in the game and makes subsequent playthroughs trivial for fun or achievement hunting.
- Handcannon: A powerful magnum that can be unlocked by completing Professional difficulty without using any bonus weapons from previous playthroughs (e.g., Chicago Sweeper, Primal Knife). Alternatively, it can be purchased from the Extra Content Shop after completing all The Mercenaries stages with an S rank.
The Mercenaries
This arcade-style bonus mode is unlocked after completing the main story. It challenges players to achieve high scores by defeating waves of enemies within a time limit across various maps.
- Access: Select "The Mercenaries" from the main menu.
- Characters: Play as Leon, Luis, Krauser, and Hunk, each with unique loadouts and special abilities.
- Maps: Village, Castle, Island, and Water Ruin.
- Goal: Achieve an S rank or higher on each map with every character to unlock rewards.
- Rewards:
- Completing all stages with an S rank unlocks the Handcannon for purchase in the Extra Content Shop.
- Achieving higher ranks (S+, SS, SSS) unlocks additional Charms and concept art.
- Strategy: Focus on maintaining your combo multiplier, using your character's special ability effectively, and knowing enemy spawn points. Headshots and melee attacks are key for maximizing points.
Separate Ways DLC
This paid DLC expands the story, allowing you to play as Ada Wong in her parallel mission during the events of the main game. It offers new gameplay mechanics, areas, and boss encounters.
- Access: Purchase and download the "Separate Ways" DLC. It will appear as a separate option on the main menu.
- Gameplay Mechanics: Ada's Hookshot is a central mechanic, allowing for rapid traversal, environmental puzzles, and unique combat maneuvers (e.g., pulling enemies towards her or reaching high vantage points).
- Key Items & Locations:
- Chapter 1: The Village - Ada starts with a Blacktail pistol, a Crossbow, and a few healing items. You'll navigate familiar areas like the Village Square and the Farm, but with new objectives and enemy placements.
- Chapter 4: The Path to the Castle - Ada will encounter the Garrador in the Dungeon. use stealth and the Hookshot to gain an advantage. The Red Beryl treasure can be found in a chest in the Castle Gate area after defeating the first group of enemies.
- Chapter 7: The Island - Ada will face off against the U-3 (Pesanta) in a unique boss fight that differs from Leon's encounter.
- Rewards: Completing Separate Ways unlocks new costumes for Ada and Leon, as well as new Charms. Achieving S+ ranks on higher difficulties in Separate Ways also provides unique rewards.
- Strategy: Master the Hookshot for both combat and exploration. Ada's Crossbow is excellent for stealth and dealing with armored enemies. Conserve resources, as Ada's inventory management is often tighter than Leon's.
Extra Content Shop
Accessible from the main menu after completing the game, this shop allows you to spend "Completion Points" (CP) earned from completing challenges and achievements. Here you can unlock:
- Bonus Weapons: Chicago Sweeper, Primal Knife, Handcannon.
- Costumes & Accessories: Various outfits for Leon and Ashley, including the Armor for Ashley and the Cat Ears.
- Charms: Additional Charms with unique gameplay effects for your Attache Case.

Prioritize unlocking the Cat Ears if you're aiming for all achievements or simply want to experience the game with unlimited firepower.
Achievement Hunting
The game features a robust list of achievements/trophies that encourage multiple playthroughs and mastery of its mechanics. Some notable achievements include:
- "S+ Rank" achievements: For completing the game on various difficulties with an S+ rank.
- "Minimalist" achievement: Complete the main story using only knives and handguns (excluding specific boss fights).
- "Frugalist" achievement: Complete the main story without using a single healing item.
- "Silent Stranger" achievement: Complete the main story without talking to the Merchant once.
- "Sprinter" achievement: Complete the main story within 8 hours.
Many of these are best attempted on New Game+ with powerful unlocked weapons like the Cat Ears or Chicago Sweeper to mitigate the difficulty of the restrictions.
