Armor & Protective Gear
While Resident Evil 5 doesn't feature a traditional armor system with distinct pieces that provide defensive bonuses like in an RPG, characters do have inherent health pools that can be augmented through gameplay mechanics. The primary form of 'protection' comes from the characters' base health, which can be replenished using healing items, and certain skills that offer damage reduction.
Your characters, Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar, have a set amount of health that depletes when they take damage from enemies. When this health reaches zero, the character is incapacitated, leading to a game over if not revived by their partner. Therefore, managing health and utilizing healing items effectively is the closest equivalent to wearing protective gear.
Health Management & Replenishment:
- Health Sprays: These instantly restore a sificant portion of health. They are a limited resource and should be used strategically.
- First Aid Meds: These are consumable items that restore health over time. They are more common than Health Sprays and are useful for recovering from sustained damage.
- Green Herbs: Can be consumed individually to restore a small amount of health, or combined with other herbs for greater effect.
- Combined Herbs: Combining Green Herbs with Red Herbs (if available) provides a full health restore.
In addition to direct healing, certain skills can indirectly act as protective gear by reducing the damage taken. For example, skills that increase defense or reduce damage from specific enemy types can sificantly improve survivability. These skills are typically unlocked and equipped through the game's skill menu using Battle Points.
Furthermore, the Mercenaries mode sometimes offers characters with unique starting loadouts that might include items or weapons that offer a tactical advantage, but these are not persistent forms of armor.
Ultimately, in Resident Evil 5, your 'armor' is your ability to avoid damage, your understanding of enemy attack patterns, and your efficient use of healing items and defensive skills. There are no physical armor pieces to find or equip in the traditional sense. Your primary focus should be on maintaining your health bar and utilizing the available resources to stay alive.
