Enemy Weaknesses & Strategies

Navigating Rockfort Island and the Antarctic Base requires more than just firepower; understanding your enemy's weaknesses is paramount to survival. This section details effective strategies and weapon choices for the most common and challenging foes Claire and Chris will encounter.

Bandersnatch

These grotesque creatures, identifiable by their elongated, whip-like arm, can be a significant threat in close quarters. Their primary attack is a devastating grab and slam.

  • Weakness: The Bandersnatch's head, particularly when its mouth is open, is its most vulnerable point.
  • Strategy:
    1. Maintain Distance: Always keep a safe distance to avoid its grab attack.
    2. Target the Head: Use precise shots with the Handgun or Bow Gun (with explosive arrows for Claire) when it lunges or prepares to attack, as its head will be exposed.
    3. Claire's Approach: The Bow Gun with Explosive Arrows is highly effective, often downing them in 2-3 direct hits to the head. Standard Arrows can also work but require more precision and quantity.
    4. Chris's Approach: Chris's Shotgun is excellent for staggering them and dealing heavy damage at close range, but aim for the head. The Magnum is overkill but will dispatch them quickly.
    5. Stun and Retreat: If you're caught off guard, a quick shot to the body can sometimes stun them, allowing you to create distance.

Hunter

Fast, agile, and capable of lethal pounces, Hunters are a classic Resident Evil threat. They appear later in the game and can quickly overwhelm unprepared players.

  • Weakness: Their head is vulnerable, but their speed makes precise targeting difficult.
  • Strategy:
    1. Shotgun is King: The Shotgun is your best friend against Hunters. A well-placed shot from close range can often decapitate them or knock them down, allowing for a follow-up.
    2. Grenade Launcher (Claire): For Claire, the Grenade Launcher with Explosive Rounds is devastating. One or two direct hits will usually suffice. Flame Rounds are less effective but can still stun them.
    3. Magnum (Chris): Chris's Magnum will make short work of Hunters, often with a single shot. Conserve this ammo for more critical threats if possible.
    4. Avoid Close Combat: Do not engage Hunters with the Combat Knife unless absolutely desperate. Their pounce attack is too fast and damaging.
    5. Corridor Control: In narrow corridors, try to funnel them and blast them as they approach.

Sweeper

A more venomous variant of the Hunter, Sweepers inflict poison with their attacks, adding a layer of urgency to their elimination.

  • Weakness: Similar to Hunters, their head is vulnerable.
  • Strategy:
    1. Prioritize Elimination: Due to their poison, Sweepers should be dealt with swiftly.
    2. Identical Tactics to Hunters: Employ the same strategies as against regular Hunters: Shotgun for Chris, Grenade Launcher (Explosive Rounds) for Claire.
    3. Antidotes Ready: Always have at least one Blue Herb or Mixed Herb (G+B) in your inventory when entering areas known to have Sweepers.
    4. Distance is Key: If poisoned, immediately create distance to use an antidote before continuing the fight.

Tentacle (Gulp Worm)

Encountered primarily in the underground sections of Rockfort Island, these massive worms attack by emerging from the ground and lashing out with their tentacles.

  • Weakness: The fleshy, exposed body when it fully emerges.
  • Strategy:
    1. Wait for Full Emergence: Do not waste ammo on the tentacles alone. Wait for the Gulp Worm to fully emerge from the ground, exposing its main body.
    2. Heavy Firepower: The Shotgun (Chris) or Grenade Launcher (Claire, especially with Explosive Rounds) are highly effective.
    3. Magnum for Quick Kills: If you want to dispatch them quickly and have the ammo, the Magnum will end the encounter in a few shots.
    4. Dodge and Shoot: Their attacks are somewhat telegraphed. Dodge their lunges and immediately counter-attack when they are vulnerable.

Zombie

The ubiquitous undead, while seemingly weak, can still pose a threat in numbers or confined spaces.

  • Weakness: Headshots are the most efficient way to dispatch them.
  • Strategy:
    1. Headshots with Handgun: Aim for the head with the Handgun. While not always a one-shot kill, it's the most ammo-efficient method.
    2. Leg Shots for Control: If you're low on ammo or need to conserve, shooting their legs can cripple them, making them crawl. This allows you to run past or finish them off with the Combat Knife.
    3. Shotgun for Groups: If multiple zombies are clustered, a single Shotgun blast can clear a path or take down several at once.
    4. Avoid Grapples: Do not allow zombies to grapple you, as they can inflict significant damage and potentially infect you. Use the quick turn (R1 + Down + X) to evade.
    5. Combat Knife: For isolated zombies and if you're confident in your dodging, the Combat Knife can be used, but it's risky and slow.
