Post-Game Content
Congratulations, survivor! You've braved the horrors of Rockfort Island and the Antarctic Base, but the fight isn't over yet. Resident Evil Code: Veronica X offers several engaging post-game activities to test your skills, unlock new secrets, and earn bragging rights. This section will guide you through all the available challenges and rewards.
Battle Game
The Battle Game is the primary post-game attraction, unlocked immediately after completing the main story mode for the first time. It's a score-attack mode where you choose a character and navigate through a series of rooms, eliminating all enemies within a time limit. Your performance is graded based on completion time, damage taken, and enemies defeated. Achieving high ranks (A or S) is crucial for unlocking special rewards.
Unlocking Characters
- Claire Redfield: Available from the start.
- Steve Burnside: Complete the main game once.
- Chris Redfield: Complete the main game once.
- Wesker: Achieve an A or S rank with all other characters in the Battle Game. Wesker is a powerful character with unique abilities, making him highly sought after.
Battle Game Strategies
Each character has a unique weapon loadout and starting health. Understanding these differences is key to success:
- Claire Redfield: Starts with the Handgun, Bow Gun, and Grenade Launcher. Her versatility makes her a good choice for learning the ropes. Focus on headshots with the Handgun and save Grenade Launcher rounds for tougher enemies like Bandersnatches or Hunters.
- Steve Burnside: Wields the Submachine Guns. His high rate of fire is excellent for crowd control, but ammo can be an issue. Prioritize critical hits and conserve ammo by using short bursts.
- Chris Redfield: Begins with the Shotgun and Combat Knife. The Shotgun is devastating at close range, perfect for clearing out groups of zombies or dealing heavy damage to stronger foes. The Combat Knife can be surprisingly effective against single, slow-moving zombies to conserve precious Shotgun shells.
- Wesker: Equipped with his signature "Wesker's Report" (a powerful melee attack) and a unique Handgun. Wesker's melee attack can instantly kill most standard enemies, making him incredibly efficient. Master his dodging mechanics to avoid damage and maximize your score.
General Tips for High Scores:
- Know the Layout: Familiarize yourself with each room's enemy spawns and item locations.
- Conserve Ammo: Only use powerful weapons when necessary. Headshots with weaker weapons are often more efficient.
- Avoid Damage: Every hit you take reduces your score. Practice dodging and quick enemy neutralization.
- Speed is Key: The faster you clear a room, the higher your time bonus. Don't linger.
- Utilize Explosives: Grenades and Grenade Launcher rounds are excellent for clearing multiple enemies quickly, especially in tight corridors.
Battle Game Rewards
Achieving an A or S rank with specific characters unlocks special items for use in the main game on subsequent playthroughs:
- Linear Launcher: Obtain an A or S rank with Chris Redfield in the Battle Game. This incredibly powerful weapon has infinite ammunition and can decimate almost any enemy in the game, making future playthroughs significantly easier. It will be found in your item box at the start of a New Game+ after unlocking.
- Rocket Launcher (Infinite): While not directly unlocked through Battle Game, achieving an S-rank in the main game (completing it under 4 hours and 30 minutes, using no more than 3 saves, and healing no more than 3 times) will grant you the Infinite Rocket Launcher. This is the ultimate weapon for speedrunners and those looking to breeze through the game.
Second Playthroughs and New Game+
Completing the game once unlocks the "New Game+" option. This allows you to restart the story with certain advantages, depending on your previous performance and unlocked items.
What Carries Over?
- Unlocked Weapons: Any special weapons unlocked through Battle Game (like the Linear Launcher) or main game S-rank (Infinite Rocket Launcher) will be available in your item box from the very beginning of a New Game+.
- Costumes: Completing the game with an A or S rank will unlock alternate costumes for Claire and Chris. These are purely cosmetic and can be selected at the start of a new game.
Challenging Yourself
New Game+ is perfect for attempting speedruns, low-damage runs, or knife-only runs. The game tracks your performance, encouraging multiple playthroughs to master its mechanics and uncover all its secrets.
- Speedrun Attempts: Aim for the S-rank criteria (under 4 hours 30 minutes, 3 saves max, 3 heals max) to unlock the Infinite Rocket Launcher. Plan your routes, manage inventory efficiently, and skip unnecessary encounters.
- Knife-Only Run: A true test of skill and patience. Requires precise dodging and understanding enemy attack patterns.
- No Save Run: For the ultimate challenge, attempt to complete the entire game without saving. This demands near-perfect execution and a deep understanding of the game's flow.
