Decide which weapons to carry based on the area you're entering; don't carry a Shotgun if you're only facing zombies. Use Item Boxes frequently to store items you don't immediately need, freeing up inventory space. Consider leaving less critical items behind if you're backtracking through a safe area to pick up a key item.
