Enemy Types & Weaknesses

Raccoon City is crawling with biological horrors and Umbrella's own armed forces. Understanding your enemies and exploiting their weaknesses is paramount to survival, especially on higher difficulties. This section details the common threats you'll encounter and provides actionable strategies to dispatch them efficiently.

Infected Civilians (Zombies)

The most common enemy type, these shambling undead are slow but relentless. While individually weak, they can quickly overwhelm an unprepared team in groups.

  • Weakness: Headshots. A single, well-placed shot to the head with almost any weapon will instantly neutralize a standard zombie.
  • Strategy:
    • Precision is Key: Aim for the head. Even with a basic 9mm Handgun, headshots are your most ammo-efficient option.
    • Crowd Control: When facing large groups, consider using grenades (Frag Grenade) or area-of-effect abilities from your chosen character. Beltway's Satchel Charges are excellent for clearing tight corridors.
    • Melee Finishers: If a zombie gets too close, a melee attack can stun it, allowing for a quick follow-up headshot or a brutal finisher if its health is low. Be cautious, as this leaves you vulnerable.
    • Environmental Hazards: Look for explosive barrels or electrical panels in the environment. Shooting these can create devastating chain reactions, clearing multiple zombies at once.
  • Loot: Zombies occasionally drop 9mm Handgun Ammo or Green Herbs.

Lickers

These terrifying, blind creatures are fast, agile, and possess razor-sharp claws and an elongated tongue. They rely on sound to hunt.

  • Weakness: Sonic attacks and sustained fire to their exposed brains.
  • Strategy:
    • Stealth Approach: If possible, move slowly and quietly to avoid detection. Lickers are blind, so they won't react to your presence unless you make noise.
    • Target the Brain: Their exposed brain is their most vulnerable point. Use high-damage weapons like the Shotgun or Assault Rifle to quickly burst them down.
    • Sonic Grenades: The Sonic Grenade is incredibly effective. It will stun Lickers, leaving them open for critical hits. Vector's Thermal Vision can also highlight their weak points.
    • Maintain Distance: Their tongue attack has surprising range. Keep your distance and strafe to avoid their lunges.
  • Loot: Lickers rarely drop items, but sometimes you'll find Shotgun Shells.

Hunters

Genetically engineered bioweapons, Hunters are fast, aggressive, and can inflict heavy damage with their claws. They often appear in pairs or small groups.

  • Weakness: Headshots and explosive damage. Their armored hide protects their bodies well.
  • Strategy:
    • Focus Fire: Coordinate with your team to concentrate fire on a single Hunter at a time. Spreading damage across multiple Hunters is inefficient.
    • Explosives: Frag Grenades are highly effective against Hunters, especially if you can catch multiple in the blast radius. Beltway's Satchel Charges can also quickly dispatch them.
    • Headshots: While difficult due to their speed, headshots are still the most efficient way to take them down. Use burst fire or semi-automatic weapons for better control.
    • Stun and Shoot: Characters with stun abilities, like Bertha's Stim Pack (which can disorient enemies), can create openings for your team to land critical hits.
  • Loot: Hunters sometimes drop Assault Rifle Ammo or First Aid Sprays.

Tyrants (T-103)

These hulking bioweapons are incredibly resilient and possess immense strength. They are slow but can close distances surprisingly quickly with their charge attack.

  • Weakness: The exposed heart on their chest (after removing their coat) and sustained heavy weapon fire.
  • Strategy:
    • Target the Coat: Initially, focus fire on the Tyrant's trench coat. Once enough damage is dealt, the coat will be torn, revealing its vulnerable heart.
    • Heavy Weapons: This is where your Grenade Launcher, Rocket Launcher, or fully upgraded Minigun come into play. Unload everything you have into its exposed heart.
    • Teamwork: One player can draw aggro while others flank and shoot the heart. Lupo's Body Heat Detector can help pinpoint the weak spot even before the coat is fully destroyed.
    • Avoid Melee: Do NOT engage a Tyrant in melee unless absolutely necessary. Its attacks are devastating.
    • Stun Grenades: Flashbangs can temporarily stun a Tyrant, giving your team precious seconds to inflict damage or reposition.
  • Loot: Tyrants typically drop high-value items like Grenade Launcher Rounds or Rocket Launcher Ammo upon defeat.

Umbrella Security Service (USS) Soldiers

Your former comrades, these human enemies are well-armed and utilize cover effectively. They come in various loadouts, including standard riflemen, shotgunners, and grenadiers.

  • Weakness: Headshots and flanking maneuvers.
  • Strategy:
    • Cover is Key: Utilize cover extensively. USS soldiers are accurate and can quickly deplete your health.
    • Headshots: Just like zombies, headshots are instantly lethal against human enemies. Prioritize them to conserve ammo.
    • Flanking: Work with your team to flank entrenched enemies. A well-coordinated pincer movement can quickly eliminate a group.
    • Grenades: Frag Grenades are excellent for flushing out enemies from cover or dealing with tightly packed groups.
    • Suppressing Fire: Use automatic weapons to suppress enemies, forcing them to stay in cover while your teammates advance or reposition.
    • Specialists First: Prioritize grenadiers and heavy weapon users, as they pose the biggest threat to your team's health.
  • Loot: USS soldiers often drop Assault Rifle Ammo, Shotgun Shells, and occasionally Green Herbs or First Aid Sprays.

Spec-Ops Soldiers

These highly trained government operatives are even more dangerous than USS soldiers, often equipped with advanced gear and superior tactics. They are more aggressive and will actively try to outmaneuver you.

  • Weakness: Headshots, explosives, and coordinated team fire.
  • Strategy:
    • Treat as Elite USS: Apply all strategies for USS soldiers, but with increased caution. Their accuracy and damage output are higher.
    • Focus Fire: Never engage multiple Spec-Ops soldiers alone. Coordinate fire with your team to quickly eliminate threats.
    • Environmental Awareness: They will use the environment to their advantage. Anticipate their movements and use your own environment for cover and flanking.
    • Incendiary Grenades: Incendiary Grenades can be particularly effective against Spec-Ops, forcing them out of cover and dealing continuous damage.
    • Counter-Sniping: If facing Spec-Ops snipers, use your own sniper rifle or a high-accuracy assault rifle to take them out quickly before they can pin down your team.
  • Loot: Spec-Ops soldiers frequently drop Assault Rifle Ammo, SMG Ammo, First Aid Sprays, and sometimes Frag Grenades.
