General Tips & Tricks
Navigating the treacherous streets of Raccoon City requires more than just a steady trigger finger. This section provides detailed strategies, character synergies, and item management advice to help you survive and thrive against Umbrella's bioweapons and the relentless USS.
Maximizing Your Score and Efficiency
For players aiming for the coveted S+ rank, especially on higher difficulties, efficiency is paramount. Every second counts, and every kill contributes to your overall score.
- Difficulty Selection for S+ Ranks: Always attempt S+ runs on Professional difficulty. While the trophy description might mention Veteran, achieving an S+ on Veteran is significantly harder, often requiring a flawless run. Professional offers a higher base score multiplier, making S+ more attainable with good play.
- Co-op Advantage: Playing in co-op is almost always superior to solo play for S+ ranks. The ability to revive teammates, combine character skills, and distribute enemy focus significantly increases your chances of success.
- Character Synergy:
- Spectre (Recon): If you are a skilled player, consider playing as Spectre. His "Threat Detector" ability reveals enemy positions and, crucially, highlights all intel items on the map. Knowing where intel is located allows for faster collection and better planning.
- Bertha (Medic): Pair Spectre with a Bertha player. Bertha's "Field Medic" skill allows her to heal teammates. A critical tactic for resource management is to have Bertha intentionally die and be revived by a teammate. She will respawn with a fresh supply of Health Sprays, effectively providing infinite healing if executed correctly.
- Lupo (Assault): For players who find themselves frequently overwhelmed, Lupo's "Super Soldier" skill is invaluable. Activating it provides a temporary boost to damage and defense, perfect for clearing out swarms of enemies or taking down tougher bioweapons.
Combat Strategies Against Specific Threats
Understanding enemy weaknesses and utilizing the right tools for the job can turn the tide of any encounter.
- Hunters: These agile creatures can be a significant threat. The most effective weapon against them is the Flamethrower. Its sustained damage quickly melts their tough hides, making short work of them.
- Mr. X (Tyrant T-103): Similar to Hunters, Mr. X is highly vulnerable to the Flamethrower. Keep your distance and continuously spray him with fire to bring him down. Explosives like Grenades or Incendiary Grenades can also stagger him, giving you precious time to reload or reposition.
- Lickers: These blind but highly sensitive creatures are best dealt with quietly or from a distance. Suppressed weapons can be effective, or use explosives to clear groups. If they get close, a well-aimed shotgun blast to the head can stun or kill them.
- Zombies: While seemingly weak, large groups of zombies can quickly overwhelm you. Prioritize headshots for instant kills. If swarmed, use melee attacks to create space or deploy a Grenade to clear a path. Remember, infected zombies can also turn into Lickers or other mutations if not dealt with swiftly.
Resource Management and Item Locations
Scavenging is key. Always be on the lookout for ammunition, health items, and special weapons.
- Ammunition: Ammunition is often found in crates, on fallen enemies, or in designated weapon caches. Pay attention to your mini-map if playing as Spectre, as intel can sometimes reveal weapon locations. Conserve special weapon ammo (e.g., Flamethrower fuel, Grenade Launcher rounds) for high-priority targets.
- Health Sprays: These are your primary healing items. They are typically found scattered throughout levels, often in side rooms or near objective points. As mentioned, Bertha's ability to "refresh" her supply upon revival is a game-changer for team longevity.
- Special Weapons: Keep an eye out for powerful weapons like the Flamethrower, Grenade Launcher, or Minigun. These are often placed strategically before major boss encounters or areas with high enemy density. Don't waste their limited ammo on regular zombies.
- Environmental Hazards: Utilize explosive barrels or other environmental traps to your advantage. Shooting an explosive barrel when enemies are nearby can clear groups and save your own ammo.
