Boss Item Drops & Rewards
Defeating the formidable bosses in Resident Evil Outbreak isn't just about survival; it's often your key to essential items, powerful weaponry, or even vital plot progression. This section details the specific rewards you can expect from each major encounter, along with strategies to ensure you secure them.
Scenario: Outbreak
Eliminating the "Giant Leech" (Leech Man)
- Location: Main Street, outside the Apple Inn.
- Reward: Upon defeat, the Leech Man will drop the Leisure Suit (for Kevin) or the Nurse Uniform (for Cindy) if you are playing as those characters, respectively. These are purely cosmetic unlockables for subsequent playthroughs and do not offer in-game benefits. More importantly, defeating him clears the path to the Apple Inn's rear entrance, allowing progression.
- Strategy: Focus fire with powerful weapons like the Shotgun or Magnum. If playing as Kevin, his .45 Automatic is highly effective. Be mindful of his acid spray attack and try to keep a moderate distance. After he's down, approach the glowing item on the ground to pick it up.
Scenario: Below Freezing Point
Conquering the "G-Mutant" (G-Virus Infected Researcher)
- Location: B4F Laboratory, in the large circular chamber.
- Reward: The G-Mutant does not drop a physical item directly. However, its defeat is crucial for accessing the G-Virus Sample, which is located in the adjacent room (B4F Laboratory - Sample Room) after the battle. You'll need the B4F Key Card (found on a desk in the B4F Laboratory - Office) to open the Sample Room door.
- Strategy: The G-Mutant is vulnerable to fire. If you can acquire the Flamethrower from the B4F Laboratory - Storage Room (requires the Storage Room Key from the B3F Laboratory - Control Room), it makes this fight significantly easier. Otherwise, use high-damage weapons and aim for its exposed eye. After the fight, ensure you pick up the B4F Key Card if you haven't already and proceed to the Sample Room.
Scenario: The Hive
Defeating the "Giant Moth" (Mega Bite)
- Location: B3F Treatment Room, within the hospital.
- Reward: The Mega Bite itself does not drop an item. Its defeat is the primary objective to clear the path and allows you to proceed through the now-unblocked doorway to the B3F Corridor. This progression is essential to reach the final areas of the scenario.
- Strategy: The Mega Bite is a nuisance more than a direct threat, but its larvae can quickly overwhelm you. Use the Pesticide Spray (found in the B2F Storage Room) to stun it and its offspring, then follow up with strong weapons. Alternatively, if you have any remaining Flame Rounds for a Grenade Launcher, they are highly effective.
Scenario: Hellfire
Overcoming the "Licker Alpha" (First Licker Encounter)
- Location: 3F Main Hall, after the initial explosion.
- Reward: While not a "boss" in the traditional sense, this enhanced Licker variant is a significant threat. Upon its defeat, it will drop a single Green Herb. This might seem minor, but in a scenario often short on healing, every herb counts.
- Strategy: This Licker is faster and more aggressive. Use the environment to your advantage, such as the pillars for cover. Shotguns are excellent for staggering it, allowing you to get in critical hits. Be prepared for a quick fight, as it can close distances rapidly.
Scenario: Decisions, Decisions
Confronting "Thanatos" (Tyrant T-002 Variant)
- Location: Underground Laboratory - Incinerator Room (First Form), and Underground Laboratory - Rooftop (Second Form).
- Reward (First Form): Upon defeating Thanatos's first form in the Incinerator Room, it does not drop a physical item. However, its defeat is mandatory to trigger the sequence that allows you to escape to the rooftop for the final confrontation.
- Reward (Second Form - Rooftop): The final defeat of Thanatos on the rooftop is the ultimate objective of the scenario. It does not drop an item, but its destruction signifies the successful completion of the scenario and unlocks the "Decisions, Decisions" clear bonus for your character (e.g., new costumes, character files).
- Strategy (First Form): Utilize the Incinerator Controls. Lure Thanatos into the incinerator chamber, then quickly activate the controls from the adjacent room. This deals massive damage. Repeat this process, supplementing with powerful weapons like the Magnum or Shotgun when Thanatos is stunned or exposed.
- Strategy (Second Form): This is a DPS race. You'll need to activate the Particle Rifle (found in the Rooftop Control Room, requires the Rooftop Key from the B2F Laboratory - Security Room) by charging it using the power switches located around the rooftop. While the Particle Rifle charges, continuously attack Thanatos with your strongest weapons to keep it at bay and deal damage. Once the Particle Rifle is ready, use it to deliver the final blow.
