Enemy Database
Welcome to the comprehensive Enemy Database for Resident Evil Outbreak. This section provides detailed strategies, weaknesses, and item drops for every creature you'll encounter in the Raccoon City outbreak. Understanding your foes is paramount to survival, so study up!
Zombie
The most common enemy, and the primary threat in almost every scenario. Zombies are slow but relentless, and their bites can quickly infect you.
- Appearance: Shambling, decaying humanoids.
- Behavior: Slow, predictable movement. They will lunge and bite if you get too close. Some may play dead, only to rise when you approach.
- Weakness: Headshots are the most efficient way to dispatch them. A single well-placed shotgun blast or a few pistol rounds to the head will usually suffice.
- Strategy:
- Conserve ammo: If only one or two are present, consider using melee attacks (especially with characters like Kevin or Mark) or simply evading them.
- Crowd control: If multiple zombies are grouped, a Shotgun or Grenade Launcher (with Flame Rounds) can clear them effectively.
- Playing dead: Always be wary of zombies lying on the ground. A quick kick (press X while near them) can confirm if they're truly dead or just waiting to ambush.
- Infection risk: Every bite carries a high risk of infection. Carry Antivirals or Blue Herbs if possible.
- Item Drops: Occasionally drop Handgun Ammo, Green Herbs, or Red Herbs.
- Locations: Ubiquitous across all scenarios, particularly prominent in "Outbreak" (Apple Inn, Bar J's) and "Below Freezing Point" (Underground Lab).
Cerberus (Zombie Dog)
These infected canines are fast and agile, making them a significant threat in open areas.
- Appearance: Emaciated, rabid dogs with exposed flesh.
- Behavior: They charge quickly and can knock you down, leaving you vulnerable to follow-up attacks. They often attack in packs.
- Weakness: Shotguns are highly effective due to their spread. Aiming low can hit them as they charge.
- Strategy:
- Prioritize: Due to their speed, eliminate Cerberus before dealing with slower enemies like zombies.
- Stun and shoot: If you have a powerful weapon, a single shot can often stun them, allowing for a follow-up kill.
- Melee caution: Melee attacks are risky due to their speed and ability to knock you down. Only use if you're confident or out of ammo.
- Doorways: Use doorways to your advantage. They often have trouble navigating tight spaces, allowing you to shoot them as they approach.
- Item Drops: Less frequent drops, but may yield Handgun Ammo or Green Herbs.
- Locations: Common in "Outbreak" (Street areas, Apple Inn Alley) and "The Hive" (Hospital grounds).
Licker
A terrifying, blind creature with an exposed brain and a razor-sharp tongue. Lickers are incredibly dangerous in close quarters.
- Appearance: Red, skinless humanoid with an exposed brain and a long, whip-like tongue. They often crawl on walls and ceilings.
- Behavior: Blind but possess acute hearing. They will stalk you silently until you make noise, then rapidly attack with their claws or tongue. Their tongue attack can inflict significant damage and sometimes poison.
- Weakness: Fire-based weapons (e.g., Flame Rounds for the Grenade Launcher) are highly effective. Shotguns at close range can also stagger and kill them quickly.
- Strategy:
- Silence is golden: Move slowly (hold R1 + X) to avoid detection. If you must run, be prepared for an ambush.
- Listen carefully: Their distinctive screeching sound indicates their presence.
- Ambush tactics: If you know one is nearby, prepare your weapon and wait for it to drop from the ceiling or turn a corner.
- Target the brain: While difficult, direct hits to their exposed brain will deal critical damage.
- Avoid melee: Their speed and damage output make melee combat extremely risky.
- Item Drops: Rarely drop items, but sometimes Shotgun Shells or First Aid Spray.
- Locations: Primarily found in "The Hive" (Hospital corridors, basement) and "Underbelly" (Subway tunnels).
Hunter
Genetically engineered bioweapons, Hunters are fast, strong, and can decapitate you with a single swipe.
- Appearance: Green-skinned, reptilian humanoids with sharp claws.
- Behavior: Extremely aggressive. They leap, pounce, and use devastating claw attacks. Their signature attack is a jumping decapitation if your health is low.
- Weakness: High-powered weapons are essential. The Shotgun and Magnum are your best bets. Aim for their head/chest area.
- Strategy:
- Maintain distance: Never let a Hunter get too close. Backpedal and fire.
- Stagger and finish: A well-placed Shotgun blast can often stagger them, giving you a precious moment to land another shot.
- Decapitation warning: If your character is in "Danger" health status, a Hunter's pounce attack is often an instant kill. Heal immediately if you see them.
- Teamwork: If playing with others, have one player draw its attention while others fire.
- Doorways: Similar to Cerberus, use doorways to funnel them and get free shots.
- Item Drops: May drop Shotgun Shells or Magnum Rounds.
- Locations: Encountered in "The Hive" (Hospital basement, operating room) and "Decisions, Decisions" (University labs).
G-Mutant (G-Adult)
These grotesque, mutated creatures are a product of the G-Virus, characterized by their massive size and powerful attacks.
- Appearance: Large, bloated humanoids with a single, massive eye and a large, clawed arm. They often have smaller G-Larvae attached to them.
- Behavior: Slow but incredibly powerful. They swing their large arm for heavy damage and can spit corrosive bile. If you get too close, they may grab and crush you. They also release G-Larvae upon death or if damaged enough.
- Weakness: Explosives are highly effective. Grenade Launcher (especially with Acid Rounds) and Rocket Launcher (if available) will make short work of them. Repeated shots to the eye can also be effective.
- Strategy:
- Keep your distance: Their melee attacks are devastating. Stay out of arm's reach.
- Target the eye: While challenging, hitting their large eye can stun them and deal extra damage.
- Deal with G-Larvae: Be prepared for the smaller G-Larvae that emerge. These can latch onto you and drain your health. Use a quick melee attack or a small weapon to dispatch them.
- Environmental hazards: In some areas, you might be able to use environmental elements (e.g., exploding barrels) to your advantage.
- Item Drops: Often drop valuable items like First Aid Spray, Grenade Rounds, or Magnum Rounds.
- Locations: Primary antagonist in "The Hive" (Hospital sewers, morgue) and "Decisions, Decisions" (University research labs).
Tyrant (T-002)
The ultimate bioweapon, the Tyrant is a relentless, nearly indestructible foe. Encountered as a boss in certain scenarios.
- Appearance: Tall, muscular humanoid with exposed heart and a single, massive clawed hand.
- Behavior: Walks slowly but can charge quickly. Its attacks are powerful, consisting of punches, charges, and ground slams. It is highly resistant to most forms of damage.
- Weakness: Its exposed heart is its weak point, but it's often difficult to hit. Explosives and the Magnum are the most effective weapons. Environmental damage (e.g., crushing it with a heavy object) is often key to defeating it.
- Strategy:
- Run and evade: Your primary goal is often to survive and escape, not to fight head-on.
- Target the heart: If you have a clear shot, aim for its exposed heart for critical damage.
- Conserve ammo: Do not waste precious ammunition on standard weapons unless absolutely necessary.
- Environmental solutions: In "End of the Road," you'll need to use the Magnetic Card to activate the Magnetic Crane to crush it. In "Decisions, Decisions," you'll need to activate the Self-Destruct System to eliminate it.
- Final weapon: A Rocket Launcher is sometimes provided for the final confrontation, offering a one-shot kill.
- Item Drops: Does not drop items during the fight, but defeating it often triggers scenario completion or unlocks a path.
- Locations: Boss encounter in "End of the Road" (Underground facility) and "Decisions, Decisions" (University labs).
While the zombies in Resident Evil 3 (Remake) are more agile, Outbreak’s undead use a similar grab mechanic that requires rapid button mashing to escape.
While the zombies in Outbreak remain persistent threats, they lack the aggressive lunging distance and unique tracking capabilities seen in the undead from Resident Evil Code: Veronica X.
