This section details the conditions required to activate significant story beats and environmental changes across various scenarios.
Outbreak Scenario
The initial scenario, "Outbreak," sets the stage for the entire game. Many early events serve to introduce the core mechanics and the immediate threat.
- Opening Cutscene: Automatically triggers upon starting the scenario. It depicts the initial chaos at J's Bar as the infection spreads.
- Zombie Invasion of J's Bar: This event triggers after approximately 2-3 minutes of gameplay within J's Bar, or immediately after a character attempts to exit through the main entrance (the one leading to the street). A group of zombies will break through the windows and door.
- Mark's Intervention (if present): If Mark is a playable character or an AI partner, a short cutscene will play when the zombie invasion begins, showing him attempting to barricade the door. This grants a brief reprieve before the zombies fully breach.
- Meeting Kevin/Cindy: If Kevin is not your starting character, he will appear in the alleyway behind J's Bar after you exit the bar through the back door. Cindy will be found in the back room of J's Bar, near the kitchen. Interacting with either character for the first time triggers a brief dialogue.
- Raccoon Street Zombie Horde: Exiting J's Bar onto Raccoon Street triggers a cutscene showing a large horde of zombies roaming the street, emphasizing the city's collapse. This is unavoidable.
- Police Station Exterior Encounter: Approaching the Raccoon Police Department's main entrance on Raccoon Street will trigger a brief cutscene showing a police officer being overwhelmed by zombies, highlighting the loss of authority.

- First Encounter with Lickers: Entering the Police Station's East Office (also accessible with the Key Card) for the first time will trigger a brief cutscene introducing the Licker enemy type. Be prepared for combat immediately after.
Below Freezing Point Scenario
This scenario focuses on the Umbrella research facility and its chilling secrets.
- Arrival at the Facility: The opening cutscene shows the team arriving at the deserted Umbrella research facility.
- Security System Activation: Upon entering the Main Laboratory area, a cutscene will play showing the facility's security system activating, locking down several doors and initiating the self-destruct sequence timer. This is a critical event that introduces the time limit.
- Encountering the Hunter Gamma: Entering the B4F Research Lab (accessible via the Elevator Key found in the B3F Control Room) will trigger a cutscene introducing the Hunter Gamma. Be ready for a tough fight.
- Activating the Generator: Locating the Generator Activation Key in the B5F Power Room and using it on the generator console will trigger a cutscene showing power being restored to certain sections of the facility, including the main elevator.
- Tyrant's Awakening: After activating the generator and attempting to use the main elevator on B2F, a cutscene will play showing the Tyrant awakening from its containment and beginning its pursuit. This marks the start of the final chase sequence.
- Final Escape Cutscene: Successfully escaping the facility via the main elevator on B1F before the self-destruct timer expires triggers the scenario's ending cutscene.
The Hive Scenario
The Hive takes players into the infested Raccoon General Hospital, teeming with mutated creatures.
- Hospital Entrance Cutscene: The scenario begins with a cutscene showing the team entering the seemingly abandoned hospital.
- First Zombie Doctor Encounter: Entering the Doctor's Lounge on 2F will trigger a cutscene introducing the unique "Zombie Doctor" enemy type, often carrying medical equipment.
- Meeting the Infected Patient (Optional): In the Patient Room on 3F, if you approach the bed, an optional cutscene may play showing an infected patient transforming into a zombie. This can be avoided by not approaching the bed directly.
- Leech Man Appearance: After obtaining the B4F Keycard from the Morgue and attempting to access the B4F area, a cutscene will play introducing the grotesque Leech Man. This enemy is a significant threat.
