This initial segment serves as a crucial tutorial for the game's mechanics, emphasizing resource management, environmental interaction, and cooperative (or solo) survival. The primary objective is to escape the bar and navigate through the perilous back streets to reach the relative safety of the main street.

Initial Bar Encounter: Chaos and Containment

You begin in the main dining area of J's Bar. The front entrance is sealed shut, forcing you to find an alternative exit. Immediately, you'll notice other patrons – some already infected, others on the verge of turning. The atmosphere is thick with panic and impending doom.

Item & Environment Scavenging (Before the Breach)

Before the situation escalates, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the bar's layout and scavenge for vital supplies. Every item counts in Outbreak.

• Main Dining Area:
  • Handgun Ammo (x1): Often found on one of the tables near the entrance or scattered on the floor.
  • Herb (Green) (x1): Typically located near the bar counter or on a small table.
• Kitchen: Access this through the door behind the bar counter.
  • Handgun Ammo (x1): On a shelf or counter.
  • Knife (x1): Often stuck in a cutting board or lying on a counter. This is a crucial melee weapon for conserving ammo.
  • First Aid Spray (x1): Sometimes found in a cabinet or on a shelf.
• Restrooms (Men's & Women's): Located off the main dining area.
  • Handgun Ammo (x1): In a stall or by a sink.
  • Herb (Green) (x1): On the floor or counter.

Key Item Location: The Bar Key is essential for progressing. It is consistently found in the back storage room, located through the door behind the bar counter, past the kitchen. Look for it on a small counter or shelf near the back door.

Enemy Strategies: The Bar Zombies

Shortly after you begin exploring or attempt to open the back door, zombies will begin to smash through the large windows in the main dining area. This is your first real combat encounter.

• Enemies: Standard Zombies (approx. 3-5 initially, more will shamble in).
• Recommended Strategy:
  • Conserve Ammo: Your starting handgun has limited ammunition. Aim for headshots if you must engage, but evasion is often the superior tactic here.
  • Melee Option: If you found the Knife, use it against single zombies, especially if they are isolated. Remember to push them away with the action button after a few slashes to avoid being bitten.
  • Prioritize Escape: Your goal is not to clear the bar, but to get out. Do not waste precious resources fighting every single zombie.
  • Character-Specific Tips:
    • Kevin: His .45 Automatic is powerful; use it for quick headshots if necessary, but still conserve.
    • Mark: His personal handgun is weaker, but he can tank hits. Use his melee attacks (punch) more often.
    • Cindy: Her healing herbs are invaluable. Use them on yourself or teammates if anyone takes significant damage.
    • Yoko: Use her inventory space to carry extra healing items or ammo for the upcoming areas.

Escaping the Bar: The Back Door

Once you have the Bar Key, proceed to the back door located in the storage room (where you found the key). Use the key to unlock it and step out into the alleyway.

The Alleyway: A Brief Respite (or Not)

The alleyway offers a slightly less confined space, but it's far from safe. You'll encounter a few more zombies here, and the path forward isn't immediately obvious.

• Enemies: Standard Zombies (approx. 2-3).
• Item Locations:
  • Handgun Ammo (x1): Often found near the dumpster or against a wall.
  • Herb (Green) (x1): Sometimes in a corner or by a crate.

Alleyway Navigation & Strategies

You have two primary routes from the alleyway, though one is generally safer and more direct for reaching the main street:

1. Climb the Ladder (Recommended):
   • Look for a tall ladder against the wall towards the far end of the alley. This leads to a rooftop area.
   • Advantage: This route bypasses a few ground-level zombies and offers a slightly elevated perspective.
   • Rooftop Path: Once on the roof, proceed across it. You'll likely encounter one or two zombies here. There might be a Handgun Ammo box or a Herb on the roof. Follow the path until you find another ladder leading down into a different section of the back streets.
2. Proceed Through Ground-Level Back Streets:
   • If you choose not to climb the ladder, continue down the alleyway. It will open up into a series of narrow, winding back streets.
   • Disadvantage: This path often has more zombies patrolling at ground level, and it can be a bit more confusing to navigate.
   • Landmarks: Look for dumpsters, fire escapes, and small alcoves. The path generally leads you in a zig-zag fashion.
   • Item Locations: Keep an eye out for Handgun Ammo, Herbs, or even a Pipe (a decent melee weapon) in various corners or near trash cans.

Navigating the Back Streets to Main Street

Regardless of whether you took the rooftop path or stayed on the ground, all routes converge towards the main street. The back streets are a maze of tight corridors, service entrances, and dimly lit passages. Be prepared for more zombie encounters.

• Enemies: Standard Zombies (variable numbers, often 2-4 in each section).
• Common Pitfalls:
  • Dead Ends: Some paths might lead to dead ends, forcing you to backtrack and potentially encounter more zombies. Pay attention to your map if you have one (e.g., as George or Yoko).
  • Ambush Points: Zombies often shamble out from around corners or through previously closed doors. Always be ready to react.
  • Resource Drain: If you've been fighting every zombie, you might be low on ammo or health by this point. Prioritize evasion.
• Key Navigation Points:
  • Look for signs of wider roads or streetlights in the distance.
  • Follow the general direction that seems to lead away from the bar and towards more open areas.
  • Eventually, you will pass through a final narrow alley or a broken gate that opens directly onto the main street.
• Item Scavenging:
  • Handgun Ammo (x1-2): Scattered throughout the back streets.
  • Herb (Green) (x1): Often found near crates or in small alcoves.
  • Wooden Pole/Pipe (x1): Occasionally found leaning against a wall; a good temporary melee weapon.

Once you emerge onto the main street, the "Escape J's Bar" section is complete, and the next phase of the scenario begins. Take a moment to assess your inventory, heal if necessary, and prepare for the challenges ahead.
