Enemies & Afflicted Types
The desolate island of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is teeming with grotesque creatures, each posing a unique threat. Understanding their behaviors and weaknesses is paramount to survival. This section details the various Afflicted types, offering actionable strategies and item recommendations to help you navigate their deadly encounters.
The Afflicted
These are the most common enemies you'll face, former humans twisted into monstrous forms by the T-Phobos virus. They come in several variations, each requiring a slightly different approach.
Standard Afflicted
- Description: Basic, shambling enemies. They attack with crude melee swings.
- Strategy:
- Claire/Barry: Aim for the head. A few well-placed handgun shots or a single shotgun blast will usually dispatch them. If they get too close, use a quick melee attack (R2/RT) to create distance.
- Moira/Natalia: Moira can stun them with her flashlight, allowing Claire to land easy headshots. Natalia can point out their weak spots, often glowing red, making them vulnerable to a single, powerful shot from Barry.
- Recommended Items: Handgun Ammo, Shotgun Ammo.
- Walkthrough Tip: In the early prison sections, conserve ammo by using stealth takedowns with Claire (approach from behind and press R2/RT) or by having Moira blind them for a follow-up melee attack from Claire.
Armored Afflicted
- Description: These Afflicted wear crude metal plating, making them resistant to frontal attacks.
- Strategy:
- Claire/Barry: Do NOT waste ammo on their armored sections. Aim for exposed limbs or, ideally, their unarmored backs. If they turn to face you, try to circle around them. Explosive bottles or grenades can strip their armor, making them vulnerable.
- Moira/Natalia: Moira's flashlight can stun them, giving Claire/Barry a chance to flank. Natalia's sight is crucial here, as she can pinpoint the weak points on their backs even through the armor.
- Recommended Items: Explosive Bottle, Grenade, Rifle Ammo (for precise shots on weak points).
- Walkthrough Tip: In the fishing village, you'll encounter several Armored Afflicted. Use the narrow pathways to your advantage, forcing them into positions where you can easily get behind them.
Sploder
- Description: Bloated Afflicted that explode upon death or when too close to the player, dealing significant damage.
- Strategy:
- Claire/Barry: Maintain distance! Shoot them from afar, preferably in the head, to detonate them safely. If they get too close, a quick dodge or sprint away is essential.
- Moira/Natalia: Moira can stun them, but this is risky due to their explosive nature. Natalia can highlight their weak points, making them easier to detonate from a distance.
- Recommended Items: Handgun Ammo, Rifle Ammo (for long-range takedowns).
- Walkthrough Tip: When navigating the sewers, Sploders often lurk in tight corridors. Listen for their distinctive gurgling sounds and prepare to engage them from a safe distance.
Revenant
- Description: Horrific, stitched-together creatures with multiple limbs. They are incredibly tough and have a single, hidden weak point.
- Strategy:
- Claire/Barry: These are best handled by Barry with Natalia. Without Natalia, you'll be firing blindly. With Natalia, she can point out the glowing orange core, which is their only vulnerable spot. A single powerful shot (Magnum, Rifle) to this core will instantly kill them.
- Moira/Natalia: Natalia is indispensable against Revenants. Her ability to see their core makes these formidable foes manageable. Moira's brick throws can stun them, buying time for Barry to line up a shot.
- Recommended Items: Magnum Ammo, Rifle Ammo.
- Walkthrough Tip: In the tower, you'll encounter many Revenants. Always switch to Natalia to identify their weak points before engaging. Conserve your powerful ammo for these encounters.
Special Afflicted
Glasp
- Description: Invisible, insect-like creatures that attack with a powerful grab. Their presence is indicated by a distortion in the air.
- Strategy:
- Claire/Barry: The key is to make them visible. Moira's upgraded flashlight can temporarily reveal them, allowing Claire to shoot. Barry can use Natalia to pinpoint their location, making them vulnerable to his shots. Once revealed, aim for their head/body.
- Moira/Natalia: Moira's upgraded flashlight is crucial for Claire to fight Glasps. Natalia can see them clearly without any special equipment, making her invaluable for Barry.
- Recommended Items: Submachine Gun Ammo (for sustained fire once visible), Explosive Bottle (can stun and reveal).
- Walkthrough Tip: In the forest areas, Glasps are a constant threat. Always have Moira's flashlight ready, or stick close to Natalia so she can alert you to their presence. Listen for their buzzing sounds.
Slinger
- Description: Afflicted that hurl corrosive bile from a distance, inflicting damage and obscuring your vision.
- Strategy:
- Claire/Barry: Prioritize Slingers immediately. Their ranged attacks can quickly whittle down your health and make other enemies harder to see. Close the distance quickly and dispatch them with headshots or a shotgun blast.
- Moira/Natalia: Moira can stun them with her flashlight, interrupting their attacks. Natalia can highlight their weak points, making them easier to take down from a distance.
- Recommended Items: Handgun Ammo, Shotgun Ammo.
- Walkthrough Tip: When approaching areas with multiple enemies, always scan for Slingers first, especially in elevated positions. Take them out before engaging the ground-level Afflicted.
Dhurlga
- Description: A large, tentacled creature with a massive, armored arm. It attacks with powerful swings and a grappling tentacle.
- Strategy:
- Claire/Barry: The Dhurlga's weak point is the glowing orange core on its back, which is only exposed after it attacks or when stunned. Use dodging to avoid its swings. When it exposes its core, unleash your most powerful weapons (Magnum, Rifle, Shotgun). Explosive bottles can stun it, creating openings.
- Moira/Natalia: Moira can stun the Dhurlga with her flashlight, forcing it to expose its weak point. Natalia can clearly see the core, guiding Barry's shots.
- Recommended Items: Magnum Ammo, Rifle Ammo, Shotgun Ammo, Explosive Bottle.
- Walkthrough Tip: The Dhurlga is a mini-boss encounter. Ensure you have a full stock of powerful ammo and healing items before engaging. Focus on dodging and only attack when its weak point is visible.
