Collectibles (General)
Resident Evil: Revelations features several types of collectibles that encourage exploration and reward players with valuable upgrades, lore, and even new gameplay options. Mastering the art of finding these hidden items is crucial for maximizing your survival chances and unlocking the game's full potential. This section details the most common collectibles you'll encounter throughout your journey on the Queen Zenobia and beyond.
Handprints
Handprints are one of the primary collectibles in Resident Evil: Revelations. These glowing, ghostly imprints are often cleverly hidden in the environment and require the use of your Genesis scanner to reveal and register them. There are a total of 30 Handprints scattered across the game's episodes.
- Purpose: Collecting Handprints contributes to your overall game completion and unlocks bonus items, including weapon parts and even new weapons, upon reaching certain milestones.
- Strategy:
- Scan Everything: Make a habit of regularly using your Genesis scanner in every new area you enter, especially in corners, under furniture, on ceilings, and behind obstacles.
- Listen for Cues: While scanning, if a Handprint is nearby, the Genesis scanner will emit a distinct sound and a small icon will appear on your screen, indicating its general direction.
- Episode-Specific: Handprints are tied to specific episodes. If you miss one, you'll need to replay that episode to collect it.
- Common Hiding Spots: Look for Handprints in unexpected places like inside lockers, on the underside of tables, behind grates, or even on the sides of large machinery.
Custom Parts
Custom Parts are essential for upgrading your weapons, allowing you to enhance their damage, firing rate, capacity, and add special abilities. These parts are found in various ways:
- Location:
- Hidden in the Environment: Many Custom Parts are tucked away in crates, lockers, or simply lying on the ground in obscure locations. Always check every nook and cranny.
- Enemy Drops: Certain stronger enemies or bosses may drop Custom Parts upon defeat.
- Reward for Handprints: Collecting a certain number of Handprints will unlock specific Custom Parts as a reward.
- Raid Mode: Custom Parts are also a significant reward in Raid Mode, often found in weapon cases or earned by completing missions.
- Usage: Once collected, Custom Parts can be equipped to compatible weapons at any Weapon Box found throughout the game. Experiment with different combinations to find what best suits your playstyle.
- Strategy: Prioritize collecting Custom Parts to keep your arsenal potent. A well-upgraded weapon can make a significant difference in challenging encounters.
Key Items
While not strictly "collectibles" in the sense of a completionist goal, Key Items are crucial for progression and often require careful searching. These include:
- Keys: Used to unlock doors and access new areas. These are typically found near the locked door or in a preceding area that hints at their location.
- Emblems/Crests: Often required to open specific mechanisms or doors, these are usually found in areas that are thematically linked to the puzzle they solve.
- Fuses/Circuits: Essential for restoring power or activating machinery. These are frequently located in maintenance areas or electrical rooms.
- Strategy: If you find yourself stuck, retrace your steps and thoroughly examine any rooms or corridors you may have rushed through. Key Items are rarely hidden maliciously, but often require a keen eye.
Ammo and Healing Items
While plentiful, effectively managing your ammo and healing items (Green Herbs, First Aid Sprays) is a form of collection in itself. These are found:
- In Crates and Lockers: Breakable crates and openable lockers are common sources.
- Enemy Drops: Defeated enemies often drop ammunition for weapons you currently possess.
- Fixed Locations: Many items are placed in specific, repeatable locations throughout the game.
- Strategy:
- Conserve Ammo: Aim for headshots and use melee attacks when enemies are stunned to save bullets.
- Scan for Hidden Items: Your Genesis scanner can reveal hidden items like ammo boxes or herbs that are otherwise invisible.
- Don't Hoard Excessively: While it's good to have a reserve, picking up items when your inventory is full means wasting them. Use what you have before grabbing more, especially if you're near a Weapon Box to store excess.
