The Blacksmith
Upon your return to the Village, you'll inevitably encounter Duke, the enigmatic merchant, often referred to by the villagers as "The Blacksmith." This section will detail your interactions with Duke, outlining the essential services he provides and how to best use his offerings to prepare for the challenges ahead. Think of him as your one-stop shop for survival, offering everything from weapon upgrades to much-needed supplies.
Duke's shop is a crucial hub for resource management and character progression. You'll want to visit him frequently to sell treasures, purchase ammunition, and enhance your arsenal. Understanding his inventory and upgrade system is key to making efficient progress through Resident Evil Village.
Here's what you can expect from your interactions with The Blacksmith:
- Purchasing Supplies: Duke stocks several essential items, including handgun ammo, shotgun shells, rifle ammo, and first aid meds. Always prioritize keeping a healthy stock of ammunition for your preferred weapons.
- Selling Treasures: Throughout your journey, you'll discover numerous valuable treasures. These can be sold to Duke for Lei, the game's currency. Some treasures, like the "Crystal Skull" or "Large Pigeon Blood Ruby," are worth sificantly more than others.
- Weapon Upgrades: This is perhaps Duke's most vital service. You can upgrade your weapons' firepower, firing rate, reload speed, and ammo capacity. Prioritize upgrading your primary weapons, especially the M1911 Pistol and the M3 Shotgun, as these will be your most reliable tools against the Lycans and other monstrosities.
- Crafting Recipes: Duke also sells crafting recipes, allowing you to create more advanced items like mines or magnum ammo once you have the necessary components.
- Cooking: Later in the game, Duke will offer a cooking service, allowing you to exchange animal meat for permanent stat boosts. We'll cover this in more detail in a later section.
Always check Duke's inventory after major story beats, as new items and upgrades may become available. Don't be afraid to sell less useful treasures to fund crucial weapon enhancements.
