Enemy Placement & Spawns

Understanding enemy placement and spawn triggers is paramount to survival in the Spencer Mansion. This section details common enemy locations, their behaviors, and strategies to conserve precious resources. Remember, not every enemy needs to be defeated; sometimes, evasion is the wisest course of action.

Mansion Main Hall & Ground Floor

  • Main Hall (F1): Initially clear. After retrieving the Armor Key, a single Zombie will burst through the double doors leading to the Dining Room. This is a scripted event.
  • Dining Room (F1): Two Zombies are present upon your first entry. One is slumped over a table, the other patrols. After a certain progression (e.g., obtaining the Sword Key), a third Zombie may spawn from the kitchen entrance.
  • West Wing Corridor (F1): This long hallway connecting the Dining Room to the West Save Room often has one or two Zombies patrolling. Be wary of the L-shaped turn; a Zombie can often be found around the corner, ready to ambush.
  • East Wing Corridor (F1): Similar to the West Wing, expect one to two Zombies. After acquiring the Shield Key, a Zombie may burst from the small storage room near the staircase.

Mansion First Floor (Upper Level)

  • Upper Main Hall Balcony (F2): Generally safe, but after the first encounter with a Hunter, one may patrol this area. Always check your surroundings.
  • East Wing Balcony (F2): This area, leading to the library, typically has one or two Zombies. After the first encounter with a Hunter, this area becomes a prime spot for their patrols.
  • West Wing Balcony (F2): Connecting to the infamous "dog corridor," expect at least one Zombie. After the Death Mask puzzle is completed, the corridor below may have new enemy spawns.

Courtyard & Guardhouse

The transition to the Courtyard often introduces new enemy types.

  • Courtyard Path: Initially, this area is clear. However, after obtaining the Crank, expect several Cerberus (dogs) to spawn, often in pairs. Use the Shotgun for quick dispatch or run past them if you're low on ammo.
  • Guardhouse Main Room: Two Zombies are usually present. After solving the Water Ring puzzle, a new Zombie may appear from the adjacent bathroom.
  • Guardhouse Dormitories: These small rooms often contain one to two Zombies each. Be cautious when entering, as they can be hidden behind beds or lockers.

Laboratory & Underground

The final areas introduce the most dangerous threats.

  • Laboratory Entrance: Expect a few Zombies. After the first Tyrant encounter, the entire lab becomes significantly more dangerous, with new enemy spawns.
  • Underground Passages: These dark, winding corridors are often home to Hunters. They can leap from ledges or burst through doors. Always have your most powerful weapon equipped.
  • Tyrant Encounters: The Tyrant is a boss enemy with specific scripted encounters.
    • First Encounter: After activating the self-destruct sequence, the Tyrant will burst from its containment. Focus fire with the Magnum or Grenade Launcher.
    • Final Encounter: On the helipad, the Tyrant will pursue you relentlessly. Use the Rocket Launcher when it's dropped by Brad Vickers for an instant kill.

General Strategies for Enemy Management

  • Headshots are Key: For Zombies, a well-placed headshot with the Handgun can save ammo. If you're struggling, the Shotgun is a reliable alternative.
  • Evasion vs. Engagement: In many cases, especially with Zombies, you can simply run past them. This is crucial for conserving ammo and healing items.
  • Burning Bodies: If you have Kerosene and the Lighter, burning downed Zombies prevents them from turning into Crimson Heads. Prioritize burning bodies in high-traffic areas.
  • Listen Carefully: The game's sound design is excellent. Listen for groans, growls, and footsteps to anticipate enemy presence.
  • Know Your Spawns: Re-entering rooms or progressing certain story beats can trigger new enemy spawns. Always be prepared for a surprise.
