Hidden Items & Easter Eggs

Beyond the critical path, the Spencer Mansion and its surrounding areas are rife with hidden treasures and subtle nods to the wider Resident Evil universe. Uncovering these can provide a tactical advantage, unlock lore, or simply offer a moment of levity in the otherwise grim atmosphere. This section details how to find these elusive items and secrets.

Mansion Secrets

  • Barry's Magnum Rounds Cache:
    • Location: After the infamous "Jill Sandwich" scene (or its equivalent for Chris), return to the Dining Room (1F).
    • Strategy: Examine the fireplace thoroughly. A hidden compartment will open, revealing a box of Magnum Rounds. This is a crucial early-game boost for your powerful Magnum.
    • Note: This cache is only available if Barry is present in your playthrough (i.e., playing as Jill).
  • Hidden Grenade Launcher Rounds (Jill Only):
    • Location: In the Medical Room (2F, East Wing), where you find the V-JOLT components.
    • Strategy: Once you've dealt with the plant monster in the Aqua Ring and drained the water, return to the Medical Room. Check the small cabinet near the sink. You'll find a box of Grenade Launcher Rounds. These are especially useful for Jill's unique weapon.
  • Ink Ribbon Stash in the Library:
    • Location: The Mansion's Library (2F, West Wing), accessible after solving the armor puzzle.
    • Strategy: After entering the Library, head to the far end of the room and look behind the large bookshelf that's slightly ajar. You'll discover a hidden box containing 3 Ink Ribbons. Every save counts in this game!

Courtyard & Guardhouse Discoveries

  • Shotgun Shells in the Dog Kennel:
    • Location: The Dog Kennel area in the Courtyard, accessible after using the Square Crank.
    • Strategy: Navigate through the kennel, past the Cerberus. In the corner of the final section, near a pile of debris, you can pick up a box of Shotgun Shells. Don't miss these; the Shotgun is a reliable workhorse.
  • Hidden First Aid Spray (Guardhouse):
    • Location: The small storage room adjacent to the Guardhouse's main hall (1F).
    • Strategy: After entering the storage room, look closely at the shelves on the back wall. One of the boxes can be interacted with to reveal a hidden First Aid Spray. Always good to have extra healing on hand.

Laboratory & Underground Surprises

  • MO Disk in the Lab's Computer Room:
    • Location: The Computer Room in the Laboratory (B2).
    • Strategy: After restoring power and gaining access to the computer terminals, thoroughly examine the desk with the main monitor. A hidden MO Disk can be found here. This is crucial for unlocking the final area.
  • Rocket Launcher Easter Egg (Speedrun Reward):
    • Location: This isn't a hidden item to find during a normal playthrough, but rather a reward.
    • Strategy: Complete the game on any difficulty in under 3 hours.
    • Reward: You will unlock the Infinite Rocket Launcher for subsequent playthroughs, allowing for some truly explosive fun and making future runs significantly easier.

Subtle Nods & Lore Bits

  • "Itchy, Tasty" Diary Entry:
    • Location: The Guardhouse's Bunk Room (B1).
    • Strategy: Read the "Keeper's Diary" found on the desk. This chilling entry details the slow descent into madness of a researcher, offering a glimpse into the early stages of the T-Virus outbreak within the mansion. It's a classic piece of Resident Evil lore.
  • Photo of Rebecca Chambers:
    • Location: Chris's playthrough only, in the Medical Room (2F, East Wing).
    • Strategy: Examine the small desk in the Medical Room. You'll find a framed photograph of Rebecca Chambers, a fellow S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team member. This hints at her involvement and adds to the narrative for Chris.
