Walkthrough - Mansion East Wing
Welcome, S.T.A.R.S. operative, to the treacherous East Wing of the Spencer Mansion! This section of the guide will meticulously navigate you through its labyrinthine corridors, revealing crucial items, solving perplexing puzzles, and preparing you for the horrors that lie within. Expect tight spaces, unexpected enemy encounters, and vital key items necessary for your survival and progression. This guide is tailored for the "Resident Evil HD Remaster" (REmake) experience.
Initial Entry and Main Hall Access
Your journey into the East Wing begins from the Main Hall, the central hub of the mansion. Ensure you've explored the Main Hall thoroughly and understand its layout before proceeding.
- From the Main Hall's grand entrance, proceed to the double doors located on the right (East side) of the first floor. These doors lead into a short, L-shaped corridor.
- Important Note: Before or shortly after entering this corridor, ensure you've picked up the Mansion Map (1F). In the REmake, this map is typically found on a small table in the West-side corridor of the Main Hall, near the door leading to the Dining Room. This map covers the entirety of the mansion's first floor, not just the East Wing, and is indispensable for navigation.
The East Wing Corridor and Dining Room
This initial corridor connects several key areas and often serves as an early combat zone.
- Upon entering the L-shaped corridor from the Main Hall, immediately turn right. This leads directly into the Dining Room.
- Enemy Encounter: The Dining Room typically houses 2-3 standard zombies. They are often positioned near the dining table or by the fireplace.
- Strategy:
- Conservation: If you're low on ammunition or prefer to save it, consider using the "door trick." Open the door, allow the zombies to shamble towards you, then quickly exit and re-enter. This can sometimes reset their positions or allow you to slip past.
- Combat Knife: For confident players, the combat knife can be effective against individual zombies, especially if you can get them into a corner. Aim for headshots if possible, but be prepared for grab attacks.
- Firearms: A few well-placed handgun shots to the head will dispatch them. If you have the Shotgun, one blast can often take down multiple zombies if they are grouped together.
- Item: After clearing or bypassing the zombies, inspect the room. There are no critical key items here for progression, but you may find Handgun Ammo or other minor consumables on the table or shelves.
- Exit the Dining Room and return to the L-shaped corridor.
The Tiger Statue Room (Art Room)
Continuing down the corridor will lead you to a distinctive room with a prominent statue.
- Proceed down the L-shaped corridor, past the Dining Room entrance. At the end, you'll find a single door. Enter this room.
- This room is often referred to as the Art Room or Tiger Statue Room due to the large, ornate tiger statue dominating the space.
- Puzzle: The tiger statue has an empty pedestal. This is part of a later puzzle requiring a specific Gemstone (e.g., Red Gemstone, Yellow Gemstone, or Blue Gemstone depending on the specific puzzle variation and item placement in your playthrough) to activate. Activating it will reveal a hidden compartment. For now, simply note its location.
- Item: In the REmake, the Tiger Statue puzzle, once solved, typically rewards you with a Weapon Part (e.g., Shotgun Parts for the M37 Shotgun or a Custom Part for the Handgun). Small Keys are found in various other, less prominent locations throughout the mansion (e.g., dressers, desks, specific enemy drops) and are not consistently found as a primary item in this room. Do not expect to find a Small Key here.
- Exploration: Take a moment to examine the paintings on the walls. These often contain subtle clues or lore.
- Exit the Art Room and return to the corridor.
Ascending to the East Wing's Upper Floor
The corridor continues, leading to a staircase that grants access to the second floor of the East Wing.
- From the Art Room, continue through the next door at the end of the corridor. This leads to a small landing with a grand staircase.
- Enemy Encounter: Be cautious! A zombie may be lurking at the top of the stairs, or one might shamble down as you ascend. Be prepared to engage or quickly run past.
- Ascend the staircase to the second floor.
- At the top of the stairs, you'll find a door directly in front of you, leading into a long, often dimly lit hallway.
The East Wing 2F Corridor and Sword Key Acquisition
This hallway is a critical path to a major key item and often features additional threats.
- Enter the door at the top of the stairs. You are now in the East Wing's second-floor corridor.
- Enemy Encounter: This hallway is a common ambush point. Expect 1-2 zombies to be patrolling or waiting. Sometimes, a zombie will burst through a window or door as you pass.
- Strategy: Prioritize clearing this hallway if you plan to backtrack frequently, as it can be a nuisance. Otherwise, use careful movement and evasion.
- Walk down the hallway.
- First Door on the Left: The first door on your left leads to a small storage room or bathroom. Inside, you can typically find Shotgun Shells on a shelf or sink, along with other minor consumables. This is a good place to stock up if you have the inventory space.
- Continue past this room, proceeding to the very end of the long hallway.
- Enter the door at the end of the hallway. This leads into the Balcony/Gallery area, which directly overlooks the Main Hall below.
- Item: This is your primary objective in this section. On a small, ornate pedestal or display case in the center of this Balcony area, you will find the Sword Key.
- Collection: Approach the pedestal and interact to collect the Sword Key. This is a crucial story item that unlocks several doors marked with a sword emblem throughout the mansion, allowing access to new areas.
Concluding the East Wing Exploration (for now)
With the Sword Key in hand, your immediate objective in the East Wing is complete. It's time to return to the Main Hall and utilize your new acquisition.
- After collecting the Sword Key, retrace your steps:
- Exit the Balcony/Gallery area back into the 2F East Wing corridor.
- Walk down the corridor, past the storage room/bathroom.
- Exit the corridor through the door leading to the top of the East Wing staircase.
- Descend the staircase to the 1F landing.
- Proceed through the door back into the L-shaped corridor.
- Finally, exit the L-shaped corridor through the double doors, returning to the Main Hall.
- Recommended Action: Upon returning to the Main Hall, consider heading to the nearby Save Room (often accessible from the Main Hall or a very short distance away) to save your progress and manage your inventory. The Sword Key will take up an inventory slot, so plan accordingly.
