Walkthrough - Underground & Tunnels

Welcome to the dark and dangerous underground network beneath the mansion. This area is teeming with new threats and crucial puzzles. Be prepared for close-quarters combat and environmental hazards. Resource management is key here, so only engage when necessary.

Navigating the Initial Caverns

Upon entering the underground area, you'll find yourself in a damp, winding cavern. Your immediate goal is to locate the Power Generator Room to restore electricity to certain mechanisms.

  • First Encounter: As you proceed, you'll likely encounter several Giant Spiders. These creatures are slow but can inflict poison. Aim for their heads with your Shotgun for quick takedowns, or use your Combat Knife if you're confident in dodging their attacks.
  • Item Acquisition: Keep an eye out for Shotgun Shells and First Aid Sprays scattered along the cavern walls. There's often a small alcove containing Green Herbs near the first junction.
  • Puzzle Hint: Notice the inactive minecart tracks. These will be important later, but for now, focus on finding a way to power them.

The Power Generator Room

Follow the main path until you reach a larger chamber with machinery. This is the Power Generator Room. However, it won't be as simple as flipping a switch.

  • Enemy Alert: Expect at least two Chimeras to drop from the ceiling as you enter. These agile creatures are a significant threat. Use your Grenade Launcher with Flame Rounds if you have them, or concentrate fire with your Shotgun. Try to separate them to avoid being overwhelmed.
  • Activating the Generator: Once the room is clear, locate the large, sparking console. You'll need to solve a simple circuit puzzle to restore power. The solution involves aligning the three colored levers (Red, Blue, Yellow) to match the corresponding colored lights on the console. If you get it wrong, you'll take minor damage, so pay attention to the visual cues.
  • Key Item: After successfully activating the generator, a small panel will open, revealing the Minecart Key. This is essential for progressing further into the tunnels.

Minecart Ride to the Lower Tunnels

With the Minecart Key in hand and power restored, backtrack to the inactive minecart tracks you observed earlier.

  • Using the Key: Approach the minecart and use the Minecart Key on the control panel. This will activate the cart.
  • The Ride: The minecart ride itself is mostly uneventful, but be prepared for a sudden stop. The cart will halt in a new section of the underground, deeper than before.
  • New Threats: The lower tunnels introduce Hunters if you haven't encountered them already. These fast, clawed creatures are deadly. Prioritize them with your most powerful weapons. A well-placed Shotgun blast to the head can often one-shot them.

The Flooded Chamber & Water Pump

After disembarking the minecart, you'll find yourself in a series of waterlogged corridors. Your next objective is to drain this area.

  • Exploration: Navigate the flooded paths carefully. There are often Zombie Sharks (Neptunes) lurking in the deeper water. Avoid engaging them if possible, as they are tough and waste valuable ammo. Stick to shallower routes or ledges.
  • Finding the Water Pump: Your goal is the Water Pump Control Room. It's usually located at the end of a particularly long, flooded corridor.
  • Activating the Pump: Inside the control room, you'll find a large lever. Pulling this lever will activate the water pump, draining the surrounding areas. This will reveal new pathways and items that were previously submerged.
  • Reward: Once the water recedes, backtrack to the previously flooded areas. You will now be able to access a hidden alcove containing the Crank Handle, a vital tool for the next section of the game.
