Your avatar in Rez Infinite progresses through several distinct evolutionary stages, each offering increased resilience and a more complex visual form. You start as a basic, vulnerable sphere and evolve by collecting 'Evolution' items (blue cubes). Each stage grants you an additional 'hit point'. Taking damage causes your avatar to devolve one stage. If you devolve past the initial sphere, you lose a life. The stages are:

  1. Sphere (1 HP): Your starting form, highly vulnerable.
  2. Cube (2 HP): A slightly more robust form.
  3. Pyramid (3 HP): Offers a good balance of resilience.
  4. Humanoid (4 HP): The most resilient and visually complex form, often resembling a stylized human figure. This is your optimal state.

Maintaining the Humanoid form for as long as possible is key to surviving the later, more challenging Areas. Actively seek out 'Evolution' items to ensure you reach and stay at this stage.
