Welcome, digital explorer! Rez Infinite offers several modes to immerse yourself in its unique synesthetic world. Whether you're a seasoned veteran of the original Rez or a newcomer looking to experience the rhythm-action phenomenon, understanding each mode will enhance your journey through the Project K network. This section will detail each available mode, offering strategies and tips to maximize your enjoyment and score.

Main Game (Areas 1-5)

This is the core Rez experience, featuring the five original Areas from the classic game. Your objective is to navigate through each Area, destroying viruses and evolving your avatar, all while grooving to the pulsating soundtrack. Each Area culminates in a boss battle that tests your rhythm and targeting skills.

  • Progression: To unlock subsequent Areas, you must complete the preceding one. Completing all five Areas unlocks additional modes and features.
  • Avatar Evolution: As you collect blue Evolution items (sometimes called "Trance" items), your avatar will evolve through several forms, increasing your firepower and resilience. There are 8 forms in total, with the final form being the most powerful. Losing energy will cause your avatar to devolve.
  • Overdrive: Collect 8 green Overdrive items to activate a powerful screen-clearing attack. This is invaluable for clearing dense enemy waves or dealing significant damage to bosses. Use it strategically!
  • Energy Cubes: Red cubes restore a small amount of your avatar's energy. Prioritize collecting these, especially during intense sections or boss fights.
  • Scoring: Aim for high combos by destroying multiple enemies with a single lock-on burst. The longer your chain, the higher your score multiplier. destroy the small, glowing "core" enemies that often appear after larger enemies are defeated for bonus points.
  • Boss Strategies: Each boss has distinct attack patterns and weak points. Pay attention to the visual and auditory cues. Often, the weak point will glow or change color when vulnerable. Use your Overdrive during these phases for maximum impact.

Area X

Area X is the groundbreaking new content exclusive to Rez Infinite, offering a truly immersive and free-roaming experience. Unlike the on-rails progression of the main game, Area X allows you to fly freely through a breathtaking, evolving environment. This mode is a visual and auditory feast, designed to be experienced in VR for the ultimate immersion, but is equally stunning on a traditional screen.

  • Free Movement: Use the left stick (or equivalent VR controller input) to move your avatar in any direction. The right stick (or head tracking in VR) controls your aiming reticle.
  • Targeting: Lock onto enemies by hovering your reticle over them. Release the fire button to unleash a barrage of homing shots.
  • Evolution & Overdrive: Similar to the main game, collect Evolution items to power up your avatar and Overdrive items to unleash a powerful, area-clearing attack.
  • Exploration: Don't rush! Area X is meant to be explored. Discover hidden pathways, new enemy types, and evolving soundscapes. The environment itself is a character in this mode.
  • Scoring: While exploration is key, high scores are still achievable through efficient enemy clearing and maintaining combos.
  • Replayability: Due to its open nature, Area X offers immense replayability as you discover new ways to interact with the environment and its inhabitants.

Beyond (Score Attack, Boss Rush, Direct Assault)

Once you've completed the Main Game, the "Beyond" menu unlocks, offering several challenging and replayable modes designed to test your skills and push your high scores.

Score Attack

This mode allows you to replay any unlocked Area (1-5) with the sole objective of achieving the highest possible score. It's perfect for perfecting your routes, maximizing combos, and competing on leaderboards.

  • Focus on Combos: The key to high scores here is maintaining long combo chains. Learn enemy spawn patterns to anticipate and chain your attacks effectively.
  • Efficient Overdrive Use: Save your Overdrive for sections with many enemies or for quickly dispatching mini-bosses to keep your combo going.
  • Practice Makes Perfect: Repeated plays of specific Areas will help you memorize enemy placements and optimal attack strategies.

Boss Rush

In Boss Rush, you'll face all five bosses from the Main Game consecutively, with no breaks in between. Your avatar's evolution level carries over from one boss fight to the next, but energy is not fully replenished.

  • Energy Management: This is crucial. Try to take minimal damage during earlier boss fights to conserve your energy for later, more challenging encounters.
  • Overdrive for Damage: Use Overdrive strategically to quickly defeat bosses and minimize the time they have to attack you.
  • Learn Patterns: A deep understanding of each boss's attack patterns and weak points is essential for success in this mode.

Direct Assault

Direct Assault throws you into a continuous, non-stop gauntlet of all five Areas, back-to-back, without any intermissions. This is the ultimate endurance test for any Rez player.

  • Endurance is Key: This mode requires sustained focus and quick reflexes for an extended period.
  • Master All Areas: You'll need to be proficient in all five Areas, as a weak performance in one can severely impact your chances of completing the entire run.
  • Resourcefulness: Make the most of every Evolution item and Energy Cube you encounter. Every little bit helps in this marathon.
