Power-Ups & Pickups

Navigating the abstract, pulsating worlds of Rez Infinite requires more than just good aim; strategic use of power-ups and careful collection of pickups are crucial for survival and achieving high scores. This section details all the essential items you'll encounter, where to find them, and how to best utilize them to overcome the challenges ahead.

Evolution Cubes (Blue Cubes)

These are your primary means of increasing your firepower and defensive capabilities. Each Evolution Cube you collect upgrades your avatar's form, granting you more lock-on targets and a more robust appearance. There are generally 8 Evolution Cubes per area, and collecting all of them will bring you to your maximum form, allowing you to lock onto 8 targets simultaneously.

  • Location: Evolution Cubes are typically found floating along the main path, often guarded by small clusters of enemies or embedded within larger, stationary structures. They are usually quite visible, glowing with a distinct blue hue.
  • Strategy: Prioritize collecting these. Missing even one can significantly impact your ability to clear enemy waves efficiently, especially in later stages. If you take damage, you'll devolve, losing a form. Quickly collecting another Evolution Cube will help you regain your lost power.
  • Specific Walkthrough Tip: In Area 01, after the initial wave of simple geometric enemies, you'll encounter a series of floating rings. The first few Evolution Cubes are often nestled within these rings. sweep your reticle across them to lock on and destroy the surrounding enemies to safely collect the cubes.

Overdrive Spheres (Red Spheres)

Overdrive Spheres are your ultimate panic button and score multiplier. Collecting one grants you a single use of Overdrive, a powerful screen-clearing attack that destroys all visible enemies and projectiles, often dealing significant damage to bosses. They are represented by glowing red orbs.

  • Location: Overdrive Spheres are less common than Evolution Cubes and are usually placed at strategic points before challenging enemy waves or boss encounters. They might be hidden behind destructible environmental elements or dropped by specific, larger enemies.
  • Strategy: Save your Overdrive for critical moments. Don't waste it on small enemy groups. Ideal uses include:
    • When you're overwhelmed by a dense wave of projectiles.
    • To quickly clear a screen of enemies that are about to hit you.
    • During boss fights, especially when the boss is vulnerable or unleashing a particularly devastating attack.
  • Specific Walkthrough Tip: In Area 02, just before the mid-boss that resembles a giant, segmented worm, an Overdrive Sphere will appear after you clear a wave of rapidly moving red enemies. This is an excellent opportunity to save it for the boss's second phase, where it unleashes a barrage of homing projectiles.

Trance Spheres (Green Spheres)

Trance Spheres are rare and incredibly valuable. Collecting one grants you temporary invincibility and a significant boost to your lock-on speed and shot power, often accompanied by a visual and auditory shift in the game's aesthetic. They appear as vibrant green orbs.

  • Location: Trance Spheres are the rarest pickups in Rez Infinite, often found in secret areas or as rewards for clearing particularly difficult sections without taking damage. They are almost never on the main, obvious path.
  • Strategy: When you activate Trance, unleash everything you have! Focus on locking onto as many enemies as possible, especially larger ones, to maximize your score and clear the screen. Since you're invincible, you can afford to be more aggressive and less concerned with dodging.
  • Specific Walkthrough Tip: In Area 03, there's a hidden Trance Sphere. After the section with the rotating geometric structures that shoot lasers, look for a small, almost invisible path that branches off to the right. You'll need to destroy a series of small, dark enemies to reveal the path, leading to the Trance Sphere. This is perfect for clearing the subsequent wave of fast-moving, multi-segmented enemies.

Score Multipliers (Yellow Cubes/Orbs)

While not a power-up in the traditional sense, these pickups are crucial for achieving high scores. They appear as small, glowing yellow cubes or orbs and temporarily increase the points you earn for destroying enemies.

  • Location: Score Multipliers are often dropped by specific, larger enemies or appear in clusters after clearing a particularly challenging wave. They are usually fleeting, so you need to collect them quickly.
  • Strategy: When you see a Score Multiplier, prioritize collecting it immediately. Then, try to clear as many enemies as possible while the multiplier is active. This is especially important for chaining together enemy destructions for even higher bonuses.
  • Specific Walkthrough Tip: In Area 04, during the section with the rapidly spawning enemies that form geometric patterns, several Score Multipliers will appear after you destroy the central "core" of each pattern. Be quick to grab them and then focus on clearing the remaining enemies before the multiplier fades.

Mastering the art of collecting and utilizing these power-ups and pickups is key to not only surviving the journey through Project K but also achieving the coveted A+ rankings and unlocking all the secrets Rez Infinite has to offer.
