Enemy Types & Weaknesses
Welcome, fellow diver into the digital depths of Rez Infinite! This section is your go-to resource for understanding the various threats you'll encounter and, more importantly, how to efficiently dismantle them. Mastering enemy patterns and weaknesses is key to achieving those coveted high scores and unlocking all the game has to offer. Remember, precision and rhythm are your greatest weapons!
General Combat Tips
- Lock-On & Release: The core mechanic of Rez Infinite. Hold down your attack button (e.g., X on PlayStation, A on Xbox, or trigger on VR controllers) to lock onto multiple targets, then release to fire a volley of homing projectiles. The more targets you lock onto simultaneously, the higher your score multiplier!
- Overdrive: When your Overdrive gauge is full (indicated by the glowing aura around your avatar), activate it (e.g., Circle on PlayStation, B on Xbox, or specific VR button) for a temporary burst of invincibility and a screen-clearing attack. Save these for dense enemy waves or tricky boss phases.
- Evolution & Form Changes: Collecting blue cubes (Evolution Cubes) will upgrade your avatar, increasing your lock-on capacity and overall firepower. Losing energy will degrade your form, so prioritize avoiding damage.
- Analyze Patterns: Each enemy type has predictable movement and attack patterns. Observe them for a few seconds before engaging to identify optimal lock-on opportunities.
Area 1: The Genesis Core
Standard Threats
-
Basic Drones (Sphere & Cube):
These are your most common foes. They typically appear in formations and move in simple, linear paths. They pose little threat individually but can overwhelm if ignored.
- Weakness: Any attack.
- Strategy: Lock onto as many as possible (up to 8 with a fully evolved avatar) for maximum score. Prioritize groups that are about to fire their slow-moving projectiles.
- Actionable Step: In the opening moments of Area 1, as the first wave of blue spheres appears, immediately hold your lock-on button and sweep across the entire formation. Release to clear them all and start building your multiplier.
-
Energy Turrets:
Stationary or slow-moving enemies that fire single, tracking projectiles. They often appear on the periphery of the screen or embedded in the environment.
- Weakness: Any attack.
- Strategy: Take them out quickly, especially if they're positioned to flank you. Their projectiles are slow but can be annoying.
- Actionable Step: During the segment where the path narrows and turrets appear on the left and right walls, quickly lock onto each turret as it becomes visible. You can often take out two or three in a single volley before their shots reach you.
Mid-Boss: The Guardian Sphere
-
Description: A larger, multi-segmented sphere that rotates and fires a barrage of projectiles. It often has smaller drones orbiting it.
- Weakness: Its core, revealed after destroying its outer segments.
- Strategy:
- First, focus on destroying the smaller orbiting drones to clear the immediate threat and build your Overdrive gauge.
- Next, target the outer segments of the Guardian Sphere. Each segment requires a few locked-on shots to destroy.
- Once all segments are gone, its central core will be exposed. Unleash a full 8-lock volley (or an Overdrive if available) directly into the core for massive damage.
- Actionable Step: When the Guardian Sphere first appears, immediately sweep your reticle across its orbiting drones. Once they're gone, focus on one segment at a time, locking on and firing. As soon as the core is exposed, activate Overdrive if you have it, or quickly gather 8 locks on the core for a decisive strike.
Area 2: The Data Stream
Standard Threats
-
Worm-like Entities:
These enemies move in undulating patterns, often in long chains. They can be tricky to lock onto effectively due to their movement.
- Weakness: Any attack.
- Strategy: Aim for the head of the chain to potentially destroy multiple segments with a single volley. Alternatively, sweep across the entire length to maximize your lock-ons.
- Actionable Step: As the first worm-like chain emerges from the background, try to quickly sweep your lock-on reticle from its head to its tail. This often nets you a 5-7 lock combo, clearing a significant portion of the threat.
-
Shielded Spinners:
These enemies have a rotating shield that deflects your shots. They periodically expose a vulnerable core.
- Weakness: Exposed core.
- Strategy: Wait for the shield to open, then quickly lock onto the glowing core. Timing is crucial here.
- Actionable Step: When a Shielded Spinner approaches, resist the urge to fire immediately. Observe its rotation. The moment its core flashes open, quickly lock on and release your attack. If you miss, wait for the next opening.
