Applying consistent pressure and maintaining possession are key strategies for controlling the game in Rocket League. By keeping the ball on the opponent's side of the field, you limit their opportunities to attack and create more chances for your team to score.
Maintaining possession doesn't just mean keeping the ball away from your own net; it means actively controlling the ball and dictating the pace of play. Applying Pressure:
Pressure is applied when your team is actively challenging the opponent for the ball, forcing them into difficult situations. This can be done in several ways:
- Aggressive Chasing (with caution): While mindless chasing is detrimental, intelligent pressure involves following up on your teammates' plays, anticipating clearances, and challenging opponents who are trying to clear the ball.
- Dribbling and Ball Control: Keeping the ball close to your car and moving it with precision makes it difficult for opponents to tackle or steal.
- Passing Plays: Quick, accurate passes between teammates can break down defensive lines and maintain offensive momentum.
- Denying Boost: Preventing opponents from accessing boost pads forces them to play slower and makes them more susceptible to pressure.
Maintaining Possession:
Possession is about keeping the ball under your team's control. This requires:
