Dealing with Snipers

Encountering skilled snipers in Rogue Company can be a daunting challenge, but with the right strategies, you can effectively counter their threat. Snipers, such as Phantom, excel at controlling long sightlines and punishing players who expose themselves. The first line of defense is awareness. Always be mindful of common sniper perches on maps like Highrise or Foundry. If you know a sniper is present, avoid running in straight lines across open areas. Instead, use a zig-zagging movement pattern, making yourself a harder target to track. Utilize cover extensively; duck behind walls, crates, and other environmental objects whenever possible. When you need to cross open ground, do so quickly and decisively, using smoke grenades or other utility to obscure the sniper's vision if available. Characters like Talon, with his Spyglass, can provide intel on enemy positions, including potential sniper nests. If you are caught in the open and spotted by a sniper, immediately break line of sight and reposition. Do not try to re-engage them head-on from the same position unless you have a significant advantage. If you have a Rogue with a long-range weapon yourself, such as a DMR or another sniper rifle, you can attempt to duel them, but this is often a risky play. Consider using abilities that can disrupt their aim or force them to move. For example, Glitch's Technological Disruption can temporarily disable their scope or weapon. Flanking maneuvers are also highly effective against snipers, as they are often positioned in predictable locations and may not have strong close-range defenses. Communicate with your team to coordinate pushes or to have teammates provide covering fire while you advance. Remember that most sniper rifles in Rogue Company have a relatively slow rate of fire and require precision, so exploiting their downtime between shots is crucial.

  • Awareness: Identify common sniper perches and be cautious in open areas.
  • Movement: Utilize zig-zagging movement and avoid straight lines across sightlines.
  • Cover: Prioritize using environmental cover to break line of sight.
  • Utility: Employ smoke grenades or character abilities like Talon's Spyglass to counter snipers.
  • Repositioning: If spotted, immediately break line of sight and move to a new position.
  • Flanking: Coordinate with your team to flank snipers who are often exposed from behind.

A common mistake is to repeatedly peek from the same spot after being shot at, assuming the sniper has moved. This makes you an easy target for a follow-up shot. Another error is to engage a sniper with a close-range weapon across a long distance, where they have a clear advantage. Instead, focus on closing the distance safely or forcing them out of their advantageous position. If you're playing a character like Dallas, his Intruder ability can help detect enemies trying to flank you, which can sometimes include a sniper repositioning. Understanding the sniper's weapon, like the D50 pistol which can be effective at medium range, or a dedicated sniper rifle, will help you anticipate their engagement capabilities.
