Hip Fire vs. Aim Down Sights
Rogue Company offers two primary aiming methods: hip firing and aiming down sights (ADS). Hip firing, which involves shooting from the hip without aiming, is generally less accurate but allows for greater mobility and faster target acquisition in close-quarters combat. This is ideal for situations where you are ambushed or need to react instantly to an enemy appearing at very close range. Weapons with a wide spread, like shotguns, are particularly effective when hip fired in these scenarios. Conversely, aiming down sights significantly increases weapon accuracy, reduces weapon spread, and makes it easier to land precise shots, especially at medium to long distances. However, ADS also slows down your movement speed, making you a more vulnerable target. The decision to hip fire or ADS should be dictated by the engagement distance and the specific weapon you are using.
For example, when engaging an enemy at close range, such as within the tight corridors of the Foundry map, hip firing a rapid-fire weapon like the Knight can be more effective than ADS, allowing you to maintain mobility while laying down suppressing fire. However, if you spot an enemy across a long sightline on a map like High Castle, ADS is essential to ensure your shots connect. Players must learn to quickly transition between these two aiming states. A common tactic is to ADS when you anticipate an engagement or when you have a clear line of sight, and then quickly switch to hip fire if an enemy closes the distance unexpectedly. Some weapons, like the MP5, have a relatively tight hip fire spread, making them viable for close-to-medium range engagements without ADS, while others, like the DMRs, heavily rely on ADS for any semblance of accuracy beyond point-blank range. Understanding the effective range and accuracy characteristics of each weapon is crucial for making the right choice between hip fire and ADS in any given situation.
