These are locations on the map that offer a significant tactical advantage, providing good lines of sight to common enemy pathways while offering substantial cover for defenders. Mastering the art of holding these positions can shut down enemy pushes and create opportunities for your team to gain map control.
Power positions often overlook objective areas, such as the bomb sites in Demolition or the capture points in Strikeout. For example, on the map Foundry, the elevated platform overlooking the central area is a prime power position. Holding this angle effectively allows a player with a rifle like the Lancer's SMG or a sniper like the DMR to control enemy movement. When holding an angle, it's crucial to play it patiently. Avoid peeking unnecessarily, as this can reveal your position to multiple enemies. Instead, wait for enemies to expose themselves. Utilize your Rogue's abilities to enhance your hold; for instance, a Saint can provide healing from a safe distance, or a Dallas can use his revealing ability to gain intel on approaching enemies.
