Game Modes: Rules & Objectives

Roller Champions offers several exciting game modes, each with unique rules and objectives designed to test your skating prowess, teamwork, and strategic thinking. Mastering these modes is key to climbing the ranks and becoming a true Roller Champion. Here's a detailed breakdown:

Quick Match (3v3)

This is the bread and butter of Roller Champions, offering fast-paced, competitive 3v3 action. Quick Match is where most players hone their skills and experience the core gameplay loop.

Objective:

  • Be the first team to score 5 points or have the most points when the 7-minute timer expires.

Rules & Walkthrough:

  1. Gain Possession: The game starts with the ball at the center of the arena. Skate towards it and use a tackle or intercept to gain possession.
  2. Complete Laps: With the ball in hand, you must complete at least one full lap around the arena, passing through all four glowing Gates. These gates are typically located at the cardinal points of the oval track.
    • First Lap (1 Point Potential): Completing one lap turns the goal ring green. You can now score 1 point.
    • Second Lap (3 Points Potential): Completing a second consecutive lap (without losing possession) turns the goal ring blue. Scoring now awards 3 points.
    • Third Lap (5 Points Potential - Instant Win): Completing a third consecutive lap (without losing possession) turns the goal ring gold. Scoring now awards 5 points, resulting in an immediate victory!
  3. Score a Goal: Once you've completed at least one lap, throw the ball into the opponent's goal. The goal is a large, glowing ring located at one end of the arena.
  4. Defensive Play:
    • Tackling: Use your tackle ability to dispossess opponents. Time your tackles carefully to avoid missing and leaving yourself vulnerable.
    • Intercepting: Position yourself strategically to intercept passes or shots.
    • Blocking: Use your body to block incoming shots or prevent opponents from completing laps.
    • Regaining Possession: If the opposing team scores, the ball resets at the center of the arena, and the cycle begins anew.
  5. Out-of-Bounds: If the ball goes out of bounds, it will reset at the nearest point on the track, typically given to the team that did not last touch it.

Ranked Match (3v3)

Ranked Match follows the exact same rules and objectives as Quick Match, but with higher stakes. Your performance in Ranked contributes to your global ranking, pitting you against similarly skilled opponents.

Objective:

  • Be the first team to score 5 points or have the most points when the 7-minute timer expires.

Rules & Walkthrough:

Identical to Quick Match. The primary difference is the competitive ladder and matchmaking system, which aims to create balanced matches based on player skill ratings.

  • Skill Rating (SR): Winning matches increases your SR, while losing decreases it.
  • Rank Tiers: Progress through various rank tiers (e.g., Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite) by accumulating SR.
  • Competitive Mindset: Communication and coordinated team play are even more crucial in Ranked matches due to the increased skill level of opponents.

Custom Match

Custom Match allows you to create private games with friends or practice specific scenarios. You have control over various game parameters.

Objective:

  • Determined by the host's settings. Typically, it follows the Quick Match objective of being the first to 5 points or having the most points at the end of the timer.

Customizable Settings:

  • Game Mode: Choose between standard Roller Champions rules or other potential variations (if introduced in future updates).
  • Arena: Select your preferred arena from the available options (e.g., Acapulco, Chichen Itza, Brooklyn).
  • Team Size: Adjust the number of players per team (e.g., 1v1, 2v2, 3v3).
  • Score Limit: Set a custom score target for victory.
  • Time Limit: Adjust the overall match duration.
  • Bots: Add AI-controlled bots to fill out teams or practice against.
  • Private/Public: Decide whether the match is invite-only or open to others.

Strategy:

Custom Matches are ideal for:

  • Practicing specific mechanics: Work on tackling, dodging, passing, or shooting without the pressure of public matches.
  • Experimenting with team compositions: Test out different player roles and strategies with your teammates.
  • Hosting friendly tournaments: Organize private competitions with your community.
