Gameplay Basics

Welcome to the arena, future Roller Champion! Understanding the core mechanics is crucial for dominating the rink. This section will break down the fundamental actions and strategies you'll need to master to score points, defend your goal, and lead your team to victory.

Movement & Control

Your ability to navigate the arena efficiently is paramount. Mastering these basic movements will set you apart:

  • Skate (Left Stick): This is your primary movement. Gentle pushes will allow for precise adjustments, while holding it forward will build speed.
  • Sprint (Left Trigger/L2): Essential for covering ground quickly, chasing opponents, or making a break for the goal. Be mindful of your stamina bar; sprinting consumes it rapidly.
  • Dodge (Right Stick Click/R3): A quick burst of speed in a chosen direction, perfect for avoiding tackles or creating space. Can also be used to quickly change direction.
  • Jump (A/X Button): Useful for clearing small obstacles, gaining a slight height advantage, or initiating aerial maneuvers.
  • Wall Ride (Approach Wall + Left Stick): Skimming along the walls allows you to maintain momentum and often reach higher speeds than skating on the flat track. Look for the glowing indicators on the walls to identify optimal wall-ride sections.

Ball Possession & Passing

The ball is your key to scoring. Knowing how to control it and distribute it to teammates is vital.

  • Grab Ball (X/Square Button): When near the ball, press this to take possession. You'll automatically pick it up if you skate over it while it's loose.
  • Pass (Y/Triangle Button): Aim with the left stick and press to pass the ball to a teammate. Timed passes are crucial for breaking through defenses. Consider leading your teammates with your passes.
  • Shoot (B/Circle Button): While possessing the ball, aim towards the goal and press this to attempt a shot. The longer you hold, the more powerful and accurate your shot will be.
  • Dribble (Automatic): When you have the ball, your character will automatically dribble it. Focus on maintaining speed and avoiding tackles.

Defense & Tackling

A strong defense is just as important as a potent offense. Prevent your opponents from scoring with these techniques:

  • Tackle (Right Trigger/R2): Get close to an opponent with the ball and press this to attempt to dispossess them. Timing is everything – a mistimed tackle can leave you vulnerable.
  • Body Check (Sprint + Tackle): A more forceful tackle that can knock opponents off balance or even send them flying. Consumes more stamina but is highly effective against players with high momentum.
  • Intercept: Position yourself strategically to cut off passing lanes or block shots. Anticipating opponent movements is key here.
  • Goalie Defense: When an opponent is lining up a shot, position yourself directly in front of the goal to block it. Jumping can help block shots aimed higher.

Scoring & Laps

The ultimate objective is to score! But it's not as simple as just shooting the ball.

  1. Gain Possession: Secure the ball from the center of the arena or by tackling an opponent.
  2. Complete Laps: With the ball in your possession, you must skate through specific glowing gates around the arena. Each successful pass through a gate counts as a lap.
    • First Lap: The initial lap is crucial. Focus on maintaining possession and avoiding early tackles.
    • Subsequent Laps: Each additional lap you complete with the ball increases the point value of your next goal.
      • 1 Lap: 1 Point
      • 2 Laps: 3 Points
      • 3 Laps: 5 Points (Maximum)
  3. Shoot on Goal: Once you've completed your desired number of laps, head to the opponent's goal and shoot the ball in. Remember, the more laps you complete, the higher the score!

Important Note: If you lose possession of the ball after completing laps, the lap count resets. You'll need to regain the ball and start your laps again to build up your score multiplier.
