Objective: Basic Tools & Shelter
Establishing basic tools and a rudimentary shelter is paramount for early survival in Rust. Without proper tools, resource gathering is slow and inefficient. A simple shelter provides protection from the elements and other players, offering a safe respawn point.
To achieve this objective:
- Craft a Stone Pickaxe and Stone Hatchet: These are your first essential tools for gathering stone and wood more efficiently than a rock.
- Gather Resources: Focus on collecting enough wood and stone to build a small starter base.
- Build a 1x1 or 2x1 Wooden Base: This provides a secure location to store items and a safe place to log off.
- Place a Sleeping Bag: This allows you to respawn at your base, reducing travel time after death.
Rust Island's wildlife can be hunted for food, but if you are still using a hatchet or a rock, your hunting capabilities are limited.
