Status Attributes

Understanding your character's Status Attributes is paramount to surviving the treacherous world of Salt and Sanctuary. These core statistics dictate your effectiveness in combat, your resilience, and your ability to wield various weapons and spells. Access your Status Attributes by navigating to the Menu Interface (typically by pressing the Touchpad on PS4 or the equivalent 'Select' button on other platforms), then selecting the 'Character' tab. Here, you'll find a detailed breakdown of your current stats and how they influence your gameplay.

Primary Attributes

Each point invested in these attributes at a Sanctuary's Skill Tree will directly impact your character's capabilities. Careful allocation is crucial for optimizing your build.

  • Strength: This attribute primarily governs the damage output of heavy melee weapons like Greatswords, Greathammers, and Axes. It also contributes to your equip load capacity.
    • Strategy: For a pure melee build focusing on brute force, prioritize Strength. Look for early game items like the Iron Sword or Iron Axe (found in the early areas of the Festering Banquet) which scale well with Strength.
  • Dexterity: Dexterity enhances the damage of lighter, faster weapons such as Daggers, Swords, and Whips. It also improves your attack speed with certain weapon types and contributes to your dodge roll invincibility frames.
    • Strategy: If you prefer agile combat and quick strikes, invest heavily in Dexterity. The Cutlass (available from the starting merchant or found in the Village of Smiles) is an excellent early Dexterity weapon.
  • Endurance: Endurance directly increases your maximum Stamina, allowing for more attacks, dodges, and blocks before becoming winded. It also slightly boosts your physical defense.
    • Strategy: Every build benefits from higher Endurance. Aim for at least 20-25 Endurance early on to comfortably manage combat encounters. Consider the Bandit's Ring (found in the Mire of Stench) for an additional Stamina boost.
  • Willpower: This attribute increases your maximum Focus, which is essential for casting spells and using certain weapon arts. It also slightly boosts your elemental resistances.
    • Strategy: Crucial for mages and clerics. If you plan on using Incantations or Prayers, prioritize Willpower. The Stone Mage's Ring (found in the Dome of the Forgotten) is a valuable accessory for Focus regeneration.
  • Magic: Directly impacts the potency of your Arcane spells and the damage of staves. It also influences your magical defense.
    • Strategy: For a dedicated mage, Magic is your primary offensive stat. The Flame & Sky Staff (found in the Watching Woods) is a good early-to-mid game option for Arcane damage.
  • Wisdom: Boosts the effectiveness of your Holy spells (Prayers) and the damage of wands. It also influences your holy defense.
    • Strategy: Essential for a cleric build. The Iron Will Wand (purchased from merchants in the early game) provides a solid foundation for Wisdom-based attacks.
  • Luck: While not directly increasing damage or defense, Luck improves your chances of finding rare item drops from enemies and chests.
    • Strategy: A niche stat, usually only invested in by players looking to farm specific rare materials or equipment. The Lucky Ring (found in the Pitchwoods) can provide a temporary boost if needed.

Derived Stats

These stats are calculated based on your primary attributes, equipped gear, and chosen creed. They represent your character's overall combat readiness.

  • Health: Your total hit points. Increases with higher levels and certain equipment.
    • Strategy: While not directly tied to an attribute, increasing your overall level through Salt collection will naturally boost your Health. Consuming Red Shards (common drops from various enemies) can temporarily increase your maximum Health.
  • Stamina: Your energy bar for actions. Governed by Endurance.
    • Strategy: Manage your Stamina carefully. Avoid over-committing to attacks, especially against bosses. The Stamina Charm (found in the Sunken Keep) can help with Stamina regeneration.
  • Focus: Required for spells and weapon arts. Governed by Willpower.
    • Strategy: For magic users, Focus management is key. Utilize items like Clarity (crafted at a Sanctuary with appropriate materials) to restore Focus during combat.
  • Equip Load: Determines your movement speed and dodge roll effectiveness. Influenced by Strength and the weight of your equipped gear.
    • Strategy: Keep your Equip Load below 25% for a "fast roll" and below 50% for a "medium roll." Going above 50% results in a "fat roll," which is slow and offers minimal invincibility. The Stone Ring (found in the Dome of the Forgotten) can increase your Equip Load capacity.
  • Attack Power: Your weapon's damage output, influenced by its scaling with Strength, Dexterity, Magic, or Wisdom, and your corresponding attribute levels.
    • Strategy: Always check a weapon's scaling before investing in it. A 'B' or 'A' scaling in your primary damage attribute is ideal. Upgrade your weapons at a Blacksmith with Upgrade Materials (found throughout the world or dropped by enemies) to significantly boost Attack Power.
  • Defense (Physical/Elemental): Your resistance to incoming damage. Influenced by armor and certain attributes.
    • Strategy: Match your armor's elemental resistance to the type of damage enemies in an area are dealing. For example, equip fire-resistant armor like the Flamewraith Set (dropped by Flamewraiths in the Red Hall of Cages) when facing fire-based enemies.
