The Ashina Outskirts is an early game area accessible after leaving the Dilapidated Temple. It introduces the grappling hook mechanic and features several important items and NPCs. This region also contains various enemies and mini-bosses, including generals of the Ashina army, and serves as a pathway to other significant locations.
Ashina Outskirts Walkthrough
After leaving the Dilapidated Temple, you will receive a tutorial for the Grappling Hook. Use L2 to grapple onto a branch and move forward into the Ashina Outskirts. Behind the main temple, you can find 1x Light Coin Purse. There is also a cave-like path that leads to a Shinobi Door, which is locked until opened from the other side.
- Prosthetic Component – Shuriken Wheel: Pass through the first area of the Ashina Outskirts until you reach the Outskirt’s Wall – Gate Path Sculptor’s Idol. From here, look straight ahead to the ruined archway and grapple to the lower rooftop. Enter through a broken portion of the viewing wall and look to your left to find a dead Nightjar and the Shuriken Wheel beside it.
- Outskirts Wall – Stairway Idol: Get past the Ashina Cannoneer and get on top of the following rooftop to see this Sculptor’s Idol on a tall stone lookout off to the right, past the Gamefowl.
- NPC – Kotaro: From the Senpou Temple Idol, exit outside and head around the right of the building where you can drop down. Up ahead, you can find a crying Taro Troop sitting against a tree named Kotaro. Kotaro is tied to three separate Side Quests; for this one, you can use him for Anayama’s. Give Kotaro the Red & White Pinwheel, then suggest a travel destination. Tell him to go see Anayama the Peddler, and he will join him in Ashina Outskirts, maxing out Anayama’s Inventory.
Notable enemies in this area include:
- General Kawarada: A nodachi-wielding samurai located near the Ashina Outskirts Wall - Gate Path Sculptor's Idol.
- General Yamauchi: A nodachi-wielding samurai located in the courtyard found slightly past the Outskirts Wall - Stairway Sculptor's Idol.
