Ledge Hanging
Ledge Hanging is a fundamental movement mechanic in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, allowing the Wolf to traverse precarious environments and gain tactical advantages. By pressing the desated button (typically Square) while near a ledge, Sekiro will grab onto it, enabling him to shimmy left or right. This ability is crucial for navigating gaps, reaching hidden areas, and setting up stealth attacks on unsuspecting enemies. Players will often find white paint or scratch marks on climbable surfaces, indicating where Ledge Hanging is possible.
The mechanic is introduced early in the game, often after acquiring the Kusabimaru and Healing Gourd. You'll learn to hang from ledges, move along them, and then press the button again to climb back up. This is vital for progressing through many areas, such as the Ashina Castle. For example, after a cutscene where Kuro tasks you with escaping Ashina Castle, you'll need to use Ledge Hanging to navigate broken sections of the environment. This includes jumping across gaps and shimmying along ledges to reach higher ground or new pathways. Mastering Ledge Hanging is key to unlocking new routes and avoiding direct confrontation when necessary, contributing significantly to the game's exploration and stealth elements.
Ledge Hanging Mechanics:
- Initiate: Press Square near a ledge.
- Movement: Use the left analog stick to move along the ledge.
- Climb Up: Press Square again to ascend.
- Indications: Look for white paint or scratch marks on climbable surfaces.
