Leader Shigenori Yamauchi Strategy

Leader Shigenori Yamauchi is an early-game mini-boss in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, often encountered in Ashina Outskirts. He serves as a significant early challenge, teaching players the importance of precise deflections and managing posture. Defeating him requires patience and a solid understanding of basic combat mechanics.

When you first encounter Leader Shigenori Yamauchi, you'll likely be in the Ashina Outskirts area, possibly near a gate. He is a formidable opponent who uses a sword and can perform a series of aggressive attacks. The key to defeating him is to focus on deflecting his combos. Hold down the block button (L1) to recover your posture faster, and time your presses to parry his strikes. Successfully deflecting his attacks will build up his Posture gauge.

Yamauchi also employs Perilous Attacks. Watch for the red kanji symbol. If he attempts a thrust, use the Mikiri Counter if you have learned it. If he performs a sweep, jump over it and press jump again mid-air to kick him, dealing Posture damage. He requires multiple Deathblows to defeat, indicated by the red circular icons near his health bar. After breaking his posture, approach him and press the attack button (R1) to deliver a Deathblow. Be prepared for his attacks to become more aggressive after the first Deathblow.
