Shinobi Hunter Enshin of Misen
The Shinobi Hunter Enshin of Misen is a formidable mini-boss encountered in the Ashina Castle region. He is a skilled warrior who wields a spear and possesses a wide array of swift, punishing attacks, including thrusts, sweeps, and perilous grabs. Enshin is designed to test the player's mastery of deflection and the Mikiri Counter, as many of his most dangerous attacks can be countered effectively with these techniques. Defeating him is a significant step towards progressing through Ashina Castle.
The key to defeating Enshin of Misen lies in understanding his attack patterns and exploiting the openings they create. His spear thrusts are particularly dangerous and can be devastating if not properly countered. The Mikiri Counter is essential here; when Enshin initiates a thrust attack (indicated by the red Kanji symbol), press dodge forward just as the spear is about to connect to perform the counter, dealing significant Posture damage. He also employs sweeping attacks that can be deflected, and a perilous grab that must be dodged. Staying close to Enshin can sometimes bait out his thrusts, making them easier to counter. You can also utilize prosthetic tools like the Shinobi Firecracker to briefly stun him, creating an opportunity to land a few hits or a Deathblow. Remember to manage your own Posture, as prolonged blocking can lead to your downfall. Successfully deflecting his combos and landing Mikiri Counters will quickly fill his Posture gauge, allowing for a decisive Deathblow.
