Perform Deathblows
Deathblows are critical finishing moves in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, essential for defeating both regular enemies and formidable bosses. Mastering the art of the Deathblow is key to progressing through the game and conserving resources.
For standard enemies, Deathblows are often executed through stealth. Sneaking up behind an unaware foe or performing an aerial Deathblow from above allows Sekiro to dispatch them with a single, decisive strike. This is crucial for thinning out enemy ranks and conserving your Vitality and Spirit Emblems. Wall Deathblows, performed by striking from around a corner, offer another stealthy option.
Bosses, on the other hand, require multiple Deathblows to defeat. Each boss has a set number of Deathblow markers that must be depleted by successfully landing these powerful strikes. These markers are typically revealed as the boss's Vitality is reduced. The final Deathblow on a boss is often a cinematic finisher, showcasing Sekiro's deadly prowess. Successfully landing Deathblows not only deals massive damage but also contributes to breaking an enemy's Posture, making them more vulnerable.
Perilous Attacks, indicated by a red Kanji symbol, require specific counters. Thrust attacks can be countered with the Mikiri Counter, Sweep attacks with a well-timed jump, and Grab attacks with a dodge. Lightning attacks can be reversed by jumping and attacking mid-air. Successfully countering these attacks can open enemies up for a Deathblow.
