Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice Basic Controls & Movement
The game's prologue serves as a tutorial for basic controls and movement. You begin with low health but no immediate combat threat. Your initial task is to pick up the Ornamental Letter and follow on-screen instructions to navigate the environment.
Key basic actions include:
- Jump: Press X.
- Wall Jump: Press X near a wall.
- Hug Wall: Press Square when near walls with white scratch marks.
- Move Along Wall: Use the directional L button while hugging a wall.
- Peek: Press L towards the wall's edge to see ahead without exposing yourself.
You will find yourself in Ashina Reservoir during this tutorial phase. Mastering these fundamental movements is crucial for stealth and traversal throughout the game.
Gameplay Mechanics
Sekiro is known for its demanding gameplay and challenging encounters. Players have a Vitality bar representing overall health. Running out of Vitality leads to death, but players can use a Resurrection charge to revive on the spot. If no charge is available, it results in True Death, requiring a restart from the last Sculptor's Idol.
The ability to resurrect is initially free each time Sekiro rests at a Sculptor's Idol, with additional charges obtainable through game progression or specific rare Quick Items. This powerful ability allows Wolf another chance to overcome adversaries.
Posture Meter
The Posture Meter is a pivotal combat mechanic. For regular enemies, it appears above their heads, below their health bar. For Mid-Bosses and Bosses, it is located at the top center of the screen, with their health to the left. Wolf's posture is displayed at the bottom center of the screen, with his health to the left.
