In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, you embody Wolf, a loyal and ferocious ninja traversing the perilous land of Ashina. Your journey begins with the goal of rescuing your lord and reclaiming lost honor, equipped with your katana and a deadly prosthetic arm. The game features fast-paced combat, a unique Resurrection mechanic, and a crucial Posture Meter to master.

The Land of Ashina: Your Quest Begins

As Sekiro, the one-armed wolf, your purpose is to rescue your lord and reclaim your lost honor. The land of Ashina is filled with perilous beings and challenges, which you will face with your trusty katana and prosthetic tool.

  • Fast-Paced Demanding Combat: Combat in Sekiro requires precise attacks, perfect parry timings, and avoiding perilous attacks. Your Vitality bar represents health; when it runs out, you die.
  • Resurrection Feature: Upon death, you can resurrect at the exact spot where you were defeated. This ability is initially free after resting at a Sculptor's Idol, with additional charges obtainable through game progression or rare Quick Items.
  • Posture Meter Feature: This meter appears above enemies' heads and is crucial for combat. Dealing damage and performing perfect parries deplete the Posture Meter. If perfectly parried, the Posture Meter will not break even if depleted.
  • Engaging Perilous Attacks: Enemies perform special Perilous Attacks, indicated by a red Kanji symbol. Specific defensive techniques are required:
    • Sweep: Avoid by jumping and stomping on an enemy's head.
    • Thrust: Counter with Mikiri Counter.
    • Grab: Dodge by evading.
    • Lightning: Counter with Lightning Reversal.

Your initial steps in Ashina Reservoir involve picking up the Ornamental Letter and learning basic actions like jumping and wall jumping. You will then proceed to:

  1. Get to the Moon-view Tower.
  2. Acquire Kusabimaru and a Healing Gourd.
  3. Face Leader Shigenori Yamauchi.
  4. Face Genichiro Ashina.

To reach the Moon-view Tower, jump across a broken stone bridge, shimmy along the edge, and climb up. Jump to higher ground, then jump and grab onto the tower ledge, entering through a nearby hole. After a cutscene, Kuro will give you Kusabimaru and a Healing Gourd, which functions like the Estus Flask from the Souls series for limited healing until you rest at a Sculptor's Idol.
